~Ira and Siata~
Ira lashed out at the woman, rage coursing through it. Get away! It found the smith disgusting, everything about her offended the angry egg. Especially the faint memories of Jordyn- it practically enraged the egg. Suddenly, however, colder rage emerged. This time it was definitely not coming from Ira, and the egg mentally flinched from Siata with horror. Go away! Don't you dare bring that things attention to Ira! As Siata would step away, smug happiness would drift to her, trying to pull her attention to a mound of sand. You, this egg needs help. Be a dear and dig it up.

Bellatrix spun from her walk with an "oh!" as the voice boomed in her head, walking quickly in the other direction. She'd not heard that voice in her head before, but had little doubt who it was coming from. Mama of course! If it had been any other and bearing less fortuitous news, Bella would have slapped them for the tone they used. How rude! But this was Mama, and no-one slapped Mama, because... well, she was mama, and she was a gold. Not that that bothered Bella all that much.
She hurried through the Weyr, having hurried a long way already from where she'd been on guard duty. She didn't bother notifying the guardmaster that she was leaving duty. It wasn't like she was shirking, she was a candidate, she was allowed to drop everything, and she'd missed out on seeing the clutch when they were first born because of her duties. Duties, duties, duties... so boring! Yet sometimes they perked up, like when someone attempted to escape, or when one of the better-looking prisoners deigned to talk to her. She couldn't be expected to be serious all the time...
"Sooo sorry if I'm late," she announced to no-one in particular, breezing into the wher hatching sands, hair awry. She looked toward the eggs, taking them all in in one glance. "Oh!" she said, clapping her hands together over her chest, "they're all so beautiful. Well done Mama!" she beamed. "Oh, where are my manners," she said, turning serious. She bowed to the mother gold, giving Z a coy wink as she stepped toward the eggs, permission given, however grudging, by Zalmask.
Floating around the eggs for a while, Bella surveyed them all before picking the obvious one. They were all rather lovely in their own ways, bar one or two - the fat looking one and the brown one seemed a bit dull.
"Well then, colourful," she said as she dropped down next to the Superbia Egg, "let's see what you've got." Well of course she'd touch the gold egg first, as this was obviously the gold, why not? It was certainly a beautiful egg, and large (not that that mattered all that much to the girl), and because she felt like it. She'd get to the others in her own time.

~Superbia and Bellatrix~
What... what was this? The egg seemed shocked for a moment, before the glistening queen snapped forth. Oh, deary, you have such potential. Superbia coos to Bellatrix, it's infantile mind trying to come up with ways it could manipulate this new person. It seems to like her, at least, even if it's just as a tool. Not an equal. A girl like Bellatrix... yeah, Superbia could use her. The egg pulled back, trying to come up with ways to bribe Bellatrix to gain help in it's mission to destroy it's mother. Another feeling tugged at Bella, however, and Superbia urged her on. Another sibling had to be dug out of the sand, and Superbia imperiously ordered Bellatrix off to do such. Hopefully Bellatrix will be a good girl and help to dig up the trapped egg underneath the sand... Not the angry beast that had called to Siata, but a smaller lump close to Superbia. Superbia hated it, but she also knew it could be a useful tool.

Stroking the shell of the egg Bella was met with a feeling of what she could only call shock. She almost laughed, a grin tugging at her lips. Then she was washed with acceptance, the egg seeming to coo at her. Well then, what is this? she thought, surprised herself at the feelings coming from an egg, the creature inside not even hatched yet. She could feel it thinking, almost scheming, sneeky sneeky sneeky, but superior. Then a fleeting feeling of resentment to the gold, its mother. What? She wanted to destroy her own mother?
"Why you..." she started but didn't finish the thought as another, entirely different mind tugged weakly at her. "What on Pern..." she breathed as the queen egg, reluctantly, urged her on. Ordered, even. Bellatrix puffed herself up indignantly, much like the queen herself had in reaction to another candidate before, scowling at the brightly coloured shell as she withdrew her hand. "Well then," she muttered primly, keeping her voice down lest Zalmask hear her next words, "sod you queeny." But unusually for an insulted Bella, she didn't strike out. Why hurt an egg, what could it do? Besides, that would incur the wrath of Mama.
But that other presence didn't go away, floating weakly at the edge of her consciousness. Where the hells was it coming from? She wasn't touching anything! She'd taken her hand off of the Superbia egg just a second ago. She looked down at her other hand, resting on the sand besides the egg for balance. Frowning, at a loss, she lifted this hand too in readiness to stand and find another egg, when the presence vanished. Curious, she put her hand back on the sand, and it came back. Intrigued, she pondered for a second. The Superbia egg had told her to uncover something, and that in itself was normally enough for Bella to up and leave. She began puling sand aside from under her hand.
Fuck it; she was curious now.
( ooc: If I'm being a dimglow and there's nothing in the sand, assume she moves off to the Luxuria egg ))

The egg that was slowly being revealed by Bellatrix's hands was a sky blue in appearance, resembling for all intents and purposes a lovely, nearly clear day. White wisps of color decorated it's lovely shell, and at the top a burst of yellow respresented the sun. The egg as a whole seemed slightly shiny, a surprising occurance given that due to it's small size it could not possibly hold a queen. The tiny egg, so small it seemed as if it wouldn't even contain a small Green, reached out thankfully to Bella. The Wherlet inside was a... stuffy thing. It was a kind and generous creature, surely, but there was an undercurrent of pride and certainty. This was an egg that believed it was always right.
Virtue was happy. It'd been so hot under the sands, but others were trapped as well. It abandoned Bella's mind with one last thank you, beginning to search for others that could help it's trapped sibling. Siata was already on it, however. It relaxed, before waiting for the next toucher. This egg seemed more aware of itself then most...

The sand fell away under Bella's hands. The digging stopped with a surprised "ooh!" from Bella as a patch of blue appeared amid the sandy brownness. Intrigued now, she began again, removing sand from around the edge of the shell revealing more blue and... a patch of yellow, all the while the egg radiating relief whenever her hand strayed close or touched the shell, as if glad it was being uncovered at last. But there was an annoying stuffiness behind the gratitude, something that, in people, would have put Bella off. It almost did here too, but the quiet certainty of this egg was so different from that of the queen egg that the girl sat back in the sand and looked at the egg for a little while.
The egg, sitting in the little hollow in the sand she had created, looked dwarfed by the queen egg it sat beside, and the purply one that leaned against that. She glanced around at the others. She wouldn't mind betting that it was smaller than the rest of them as well.
"Well you're a happy little chappy, aren't you?" She asked quietly, before raising her voice. "Hey Z! Looks like Mama missed one!" she called, waving with her hand, indicating for him to come have a look, if he'd not already seen her digging it up. She shuffled back a little, allowing a bit of room for the Wherleader should he come over, then turned to the Luxuria Egg which she now sat in front of, stroking the pretty purple and pink shell.

Druen felt very little from the egg, soon becoming rather nonplussed with it. It took him a moment, but then he realised that it was actually the egg that was bored. With him. He was a little bemused at first, wondering if he should find something more interesting to think about. It seemed he took too long though, the wher inside already attempting to usher him on. It seemed angered when he didn't move initially, seeming to demand his presence gone. Druen mentally shrugged and withdrew his hand, he didn't have to be liked by everyone.
Standing up he peered about at the clutch again, debating where to head next. There were still a few eggs left to investigate. As he watched, he saw another candidate dig through the sands. Puzzled, he watched, heading a little closer. The woman seemed to be on to something, and she eventually pulled up a pale blue egg. The woman called out to Z, and Druen carefully edged away. He'd have to come back and peek later.
He hummed quietly to himself, passing among the eggs till he finally settled next to the Acedia Egg Running his palm across the calm coloured shell. It was relaxing, given some of the bright colours that surrounded it. Druen continued to hum softly to himself, carefully poking his attention towards the egg beneath his fingertips in a questioning sort of way.

~Bellatrix and Luxuria~
Luxuria seemed to be brooding over it's earlier failures, confused at the reactions. Poor thing, it didn't mean to be so creepy. It was trying to be social and make friends. The egg extended a questioning thought to Bellatrix, before again searching her mind. It was not nearly as violating this time, mere curiosity that revealed that Luxuria was merely looking for something. It didn't find what it was looking for, however. The egg was disappointed... greatly. Before it asked Bellatrix if she would like to play with it. It was starting to learn to be less violating and creepy, something that was definitely good.
~Acedia and Druen~
Curiosity flares to life as Druen touches the egg, followed by a small burst of excitement. Acedia seems shocked by the fact this man works so hard, that he is so rarely lazy. Timidly it extends a question to him, softly asking if he would stay and talk to it for a bit. However, depression soon floods it. Druen wouldn't want to talk to Acedia. Acedia was ugly and small, not at all good like any of it's other clutch members. No, not at all... it'd never be good. The egg seems to drown in it's own misery. So young, to already be so sad.
Meanwhile, Z lifted his gaze from Bujare, turning attention to the woman calling for him. Had Zalmask buried something in the sand? "What do you mean?" He asked, more gruffly then he meant. He wandered over, crouching beside the blue egg and laying a gentle hand on it's shell. He jerked back as if bitten, eyes widening.
"Faranth's shiny arse! Zalmask! Zalmask one of them is alive!" He seemed so excited, as if one of his own children had been discovered to be living. Zalmask, the great golden wher, bounded over as if she was a puppy. She crooned in delight, nudging the blue egg and covering it in protecting kisses.
"Thanks for digging it up. It'd have probably died from the heat if you hadn't."

Druen was pleased as the mind inside the egg seemed to flare into life. It seemed pleased, happy to greet him and the man smiled. It was odd, being asked a question without sound, but the question was there and clear. Stay and chat, well he could certainly make time. He began to settle himself comfortably on the sand, when he froze.
The change in the egg was a little shocking, and Druen seemed stunned. It had been so happy a moment ago, yet now it was so sad. Frowning, Druen hastily settled himself in the sand, adding a second hand to the shell and thinking for a moment. He could stay and chat, he would stay and chat. He pushed that towards the egg, murmuring quietly to it as well. "I want, to stay and chat. I just, don't know what you want to know about."
He mused thoughtfully, looking around the room for a moment and rather than feeling a little lost, he merely felt a little puzzled. "There's so much out here, I wouldn't know where to begin." He said softly, his deep tones were cheery, welcoming, and he sought to keep himself upbeat. "I am very glad to meet you though, you shouldn't worry so much. I expect you are just as good, if not better than the others. I've seen the smallest runts turn into the most handsome of creatures, the most timid of foals into the leaders of runner herds with encouragement. You will probably surprise yourself with just how interesting, just how clever, just how special you will turn out to be. You just need to believe in yourself." He would have felt silly, talking to an egg, if he hadn't felt the minds that stirred beneath the shells. If he hadn't read countless reports of people who were sure, even at the Touching, which egg would go on to bond with them. Just because they were in shells, didn't mean they didn't think, didn't feel. Even Whers, whom Druen knew people had rather mixed feelings about, were aware of much before their hatching. The others could think him odd, that was fine, he was a little different anyway. He'd not let other people's opinions stop him from enjoying his time with the eggs, even if this one seemed to be a bit on the sad side.

~Acedia and Druen~
Acedia seems to shyly recover from it's depression, and if it could it'd be shuffling it's feet in the sand. It really wants to believe Druen, believe that it could be great. Eventually, shyly, the little thing seems to agree. Alright, Druen, Acedia will try. But you have to help! The egg hesitates, wondering how long it could put off actually trying. It was, after all, Sloth. Suddenly, the egg seemed to decide something. Don't let little old Acedia keep you, Druen. There are other eggs that need your attention. Acedia will see you when it hatches! Promise!

Druen waited, wondering whether it would flare into sudden temper. It seemed to be a bit of a theme among the whers, more than once he'd been bowled over by a sudden change in personality. From calm to anger, from detachment to demands for things. This egg seemed to take a gentler approach. There was a shifting, a push back of consciousness that wasn't brash. It seemed almost embarrassed, or shy, it was hard to tell which given the egg didn't actually move about or have a face. He smiled as he felt agreement roll through to him, filled with a cheerful encouragement that his words hadn't been in vain.
He chuckled, pushing back with warmth and enthusiasm. "You aren't keeping me down, but I do look forward to meeting you." He whispered as he felt the egg shrug him away. It wasn't harsh, but it did have a point, there were others he should really visit too. "I will keep you to that promise, I want to at least meet you on hatching day." He said, finally withdrawing his hands and standing up.
Encouraged by his experience, he perused the room again and decided to ensure he didn't miss a single egg. He moved to the Luxuria Egg, placing a hand curiously on its lavishly coloured shell, inquiring softly to the mind inside as he spent a little time with it.
He then moved on, pausing with its neighbour, the Superbia Egg. This egg seemed dipped in gold, radiating it's presence to everyone it could. He was impressed by the confidence of it, also curious at the Wher it would contain. Would it be just as confident as its shell? Appearances could be deceiving after all. Druen liked to think he was open minded, so he greeted the egg with polite curiosity, wanting to get a feel for the Wher inside, and also allow the Wher to get a good look at him. They'd swiftly work out whether they were in any way compatible.
Finally, his curiosity got the better of him. He headed over to where Zalmask was lovingly mothering the newly unearthed egg and bowed slightly. "Congratulations on another egg, it is always encouraging to see." He said, watching the shell curiously. "May I visit with it when you're sure it is alright?" He asked the Gold, careful not to simply reach out and touch the egg, he certainly did not want to anger the clutch mother.

~Luxuria and Druen~
Oh, another friend! Luxuria searched again, though it did not find what it was looking for. It found something else. Excitement, joy, all of the positive emotions flooded through the young wherlet and into Druen. It wanted to play a game, but now it knew not to offer. It creeped people out when it offered... it just wanted everyone to have fun and feel good! Luxuria sulked, accidentally ignoring Druen. The egg, that had been so happy to feel him, probably wouldn't respond again. It was busy thinking about the reaction of something to it's supposed disturbing nature. Poor thing, it was utterly despairing.
~Superbia and Druen~
Superbia holds only contempt for Druen, when compared to her sibling. How dare you wait so long to touch me, the golden queen seems to ask. On with you, Superbia will have nothing to do with you... peasant. You are DISGUSTING. Superbia also seems angry about the reactions of the other Whers to Druen... particularly Luxuria and Acedia. The Wher eggs seemed much more aware of each other then dragon eggs- possibly because Whers functioned in packs in the wild. Superbia seems offended that Druen would think he was compatible to it- some eggs had already taken a liking to you, you selfish fool! Don't assume that the QUEEN would, just because those peasants did!
Zalmask grunted at Druen, pulling back to let him touch Virtue.

Druen found the lavish purple egg rather confusing, his brow furrowed as he tried to make sense of it. It was so happy, so excited and then it simply, stopped. It was like butting against a wall, and Druen was not invited to pass. He wasn't offended, he could respect privacy, but he was once again shocked at the sudden change. He glanced briefly to the egg he'd just been with, but made no move to return. He could stop by later, or wait for hatching day. Still, it was curious. Aware the wall was not going to budge any time soon, Druen left it be. Instead turning to the rather splendid golden coloured wher egg.
This egg however, greeted him with neither pleasant interest or outright rage. It was merely, disgusted with his presence. Well that was a new one. He lifted an eyebrow, resisting the urge to chuckle. The man had never had much time for arrogance, too much parading and not enough working in his eyes, but he was careful not to pass this on. He praised where it was due, encouraged where it was needed and let the rest get along with things. He didn't back down from the egg, or shrink away, merely met it with indifference in light of its attitude and held no problems moving on. He knew the Gold's were a proud kind, it seemed he held about as much interest for the Wher inside, as it did for him. He didn't find it disgusting in the slightest, but it was clear the pair would not get along well.
It was a good thing then, that Zalmask moved aside so he could spend time with one of the smallest eggs uncovered. He placed a careful hand on the Virtue Egg, marvelling at the shine to its shell and relieved that even the smallest of eggs could still survive. He was awed by its determination and eager to meet the mind inside.
There were other eggs to meet still though, so after Druen had spent some time with this egg he once more withdrew. He bowed in thanks again, and then moved among the remaining eggs. The unusual shape of the Gula Egg caught his eye, and he tried this one next, pressing a curious hand against its shell.

Bella frowned at Z's rough reply, then the questioning mind of the Luxuria egg made contact, sifting through her mind in such a way that made Bella give a small 'oh' as Z settled down next to her. She flinched, off balance, as he drew his arm back from the egg as if shocked by it, before shouting out to the gold. Now, Bella had been prepared for the arrival of the wherleader, his gold, not so much.
As the mother queen came barreling over Bella shuffled hurriedly out of her way, spluttering as sand was kicked up in her face. "Y'know. there are other's here besides your eggs, Zalmask," she said grumpily, before turning her attention back to the egg who was still resting under her hand. She felt a great disappointment from the egg, and instantly knew that this wasn't the egg for her. Unlike the queen egg, though, this one seemed to want to be more positive, asking for a game.
She smiled, giving the shell one last pat before standing as another candidate approached and touched the egg. "Maybe another time," she said to it, quietly, before replying to Z.
"No problem. I probably wouldn't have even known it was there if not for the queen egg," she said, looking to the golden shell and sniggering at the reaction of the young man then touching it, before walking over to some other eggs, absently trailing her fingers over Z's shoulders on the way past.
Drawn by the bright colours, Bella approached the Averitia Egg, trailing her hand over the shell before moving on to the fiery brilliance of the Ira Egg.

~Virtue and Druen~
Oh, you're touching me? Of course you are. Amusement ripples through Virtue, before it reaches out to... pretty much pat Druen. Virtue liked him- he was a man with a strong work ethic who took care of injured animals. What WASN'T to like about him? Curiosity was extended to Druen's career, politely inquiring about it. It was like the egg had sat down and asked about the weather, polite as it was. After getting it's answer it'd usher Druen off, informing him of the fact it's siblings needed to see him.
~Gula and Druen~
HELLO HELLO! Will you be friends with Gula!? Gluttony is practically bursting out of it's shell with excitement as it is touched, just as friendly as Virtue but most certainly more friendly. The memories of herdbeasts at the back of Druen's mind excited it even more, hunger flooding through the small egg. You know, Gula just can't wait to get more food! Suddenly, the egg pauses, before alarm rushes through it.
The reason why would be shown as an incredibly weak mind tugs at Druen, only really able to be sensed as Druen was standing directly next to the mound of sand it was buried in. The faltering and weak mind was begging him to dig it out of the sand- it was so hot down here.
~Avaritia and Bella~
Avaritia pauses for a second underneath Bella's hand, sifting through her recent memories. Suddenly, it flinched away violently. Superbia had staked her claim on this one as a pawn, and greedy Avaritia knew better then to manipulate something Superbia had claimed- even if it was merely as a pawn and not a handler. However, the egg hesitates before seeming to mentally sidle up to Bella like a cat, coyly asking her if she'll bring it any presents.
~Ira and Bella~
WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU- Oh... OH! The boss likes you! Well, then, Ira likes you too! Ira brightens and eagerly touches Bella's mind, showing the intelligent and willful creature underneath the rage. It was just as stubborn as she was, but it was happy to be friendly with her. Ira sifts through her recent memories just like it's greedy sibling did, the angry egg growing more excited. However, without the rage to mask all other emotions, a flickering sadness was revealed... before it was ruthlessly squashed by the angry mind inside the egg.
