Oh, that one is very pretty![/i] Trusith crooned his approval, lowering his massive head to see the fragile shell cupped in Yari's hands. The prettiest of shells! Not as pretty as Yari, but almost![/i] Trusith lowered his nose to nudge the shell... and accidentally crushed it. Oh...[/i] He was so crestfallen and miserable that Yari laughed and rubbed his nose.
"Darling, it's alright. Just a shell." Yari would really rather be napping or something, but she was willing to spend her break with Trusith. They rarely had free time when they were both awake, and she'd seized it happily. Jade was farther down the beach, occasionally reappearing with another sea shell.
I think you'd look nice with a necklace made of these things.[/i] The brown gently nudged Yari, but even that gentle action made her waver. She smacked at his muzzle playfully, before nodding. But I am too big to make one, and Jade is too silly. Do you know how to make one?[/i]
"Of course not. But it can't be that hard." Yari turned, calling out as loudly as she could. "Jade! Bring the largest shells you can find, idiot!" She sent a strong image of a shell with her. Instead, Jade brought her a large clump of sand and dropped it on Trusith.
Oh, how mean![/i] Trusith remarked sadly, trying to shake the sand off of himself. I am going to ask for help, because Jade is a rude bad thing and very mean![/i]
Trusith-
Hello! Someone help us find shells, please? We are making necklaces! But um, not if you're busy![/b] Trusith's message was restricted to the beach and a bit beyond, adding an image of where they were.

With the sunshine and the beautiful day out, Natai was enjoying her quiet day. Grandfather decided to stay in his room for some bedrest for the day - he had a slight cold, somehow, and she wandered out to the beach. Wind! It smelled of salt and everything wonderful in the world. Rumple sprawled on her shoulders, stretched out with a trill each time she breathed out.
She blinked when Trusith's voice echoed in her head, and even Rumple poked her head up. "Is there someone talking to us, Rumple?" Rumple squeaked and, taking it as an agreement, she beelined it towards where it was Trusith projected. Only until Yari and Trusith came into view did she falter, hesitating because there was another human there. A human and a dragon.
Yari looked only vaguely familiar, and Trusith less so, but she'd seen them before, but neither of them had been mentioned by M'onk. That meant they were safe, or at least not actively dangerous. Rumple chirrped in agreement, her wings mantling to form some sort of green headpiece to the girls dark hair.
"Ah- hello?" Natai smoothed out her dress with the familiar nerves of talking to someone she'd never met before. Guh. Just. Guh. She smiled, small and hesitant, but she smiled anyway. "I heard you were looking for shells?"

A woman! Say hello! She is very quiet seeming. So don't be mean, alright? I know you like that, and I like things you like, but I don't like you being mean so... um...[/i] Trusith stopped his rambling, lowering his head to look over Natai with whirling blue eyes. Oh! She was a pretty thing! Trusith's tongue halfway stuck out, but Yari made a sharp noise.
"No, Trusith. No licking!" Trusith pulled his tongue back into his mouth, looking apologetic. He slunk back to Yari, sitting behind her and seemingly trying to hide from his shame. He lowered his head so his chin rested on the ground, his eyes whirling yellow and his wings tucked tight against his sides. "Yes. We are looking for shells." Yari's voice was curt as she looked over the girl. Sometimes, it was hard to forget that women weren't to be trusted.
She wished they could, but it was, in Yari's mine, fact. Not the truth, but Yari didn't know that. So, without even knowing it, she took a defensive pose.
Trusith noticed this, and a sudden determination set in. His Yari would make a friend! Yes! You should help! We are going to make necklaces, and you will have one too! Trusith stood up and stepped over Yari, cooing to his newest friend. You are my newest friend! I am Trusith. Who are you? We will find the best shells! That is Yari. She is very pretty, and smart, but very shy!
"I'm not shy."
Yes you are, silly. Just in a different way from other shy people.

Natai smiled at Trusith and his enthusiasm. Her hands flew up to guard her face from the lick that never happened, and even then, Yari's sharp voice seemed appropriate because her dragon was about to lick her! A stranger! Who knew if she had cooties? He darted away and natai even giggled, her hands going to her mouth instead to hide it.
Yari's abrupt tone killed the smile, Natai's shoulders tightening. She took a small step back, more then willing to turn around and walk away; if the girl was going to be mean, Natai could leave, would leave. Trusith butted into the conversation just in time to keep Natai from leaving the barely started conversation, though her hands fell to twist together in front of herself.
"I'm Natai," she said at great length, her eyes on Trusith instead of the other woman. "Grandfather wanted to be alone today so I'm... here. What sort of shells are you looking for?"
Natai looked to the sand, crouching down to pluck up a plain white shell. flipping it over showed an underside of something shimmery and pretty, her lips twitching into a smile. "Or something more colorful?"

Trusith really had softened her up. When Natai backed a bit away, a sudden surge of guilt raced through Yari. Added to that was the quick burst of disapproval that Trusith quickly muffled, the brown shunning it from his head. Yari was perfect, after all. Trusith's attempt at disregarding his riders flaws just made Yari feel worse. "Sorry. You surprised me." Yari lied, forcing a weak smile on her face. For Trusith, of course. Yari didn't want him disappointed in her. Not because she felt bad. Never!
Trusith seemed excited, at least. He wriggled in the sand, shaking his tail in the air. Oh! Who is your grandfather? I don't think I have a grandfather. Or, i've never met him. Yari, do I have a grandfather? Yari mutely nodded, which made Trusith fall deep into thought as he tried to marvel out the mystery of the grandfather. When Yari realized he wasn't going to answer, she sighed and did so for him.
"Shiny, pretty ones." Yari told her, still regarding her with something akin to suspicion. But when she saw the shell, she inclined her head in approval. "That'd make a nice center shell, I think." Yari afforded a small smile. No use being mean to someone who wouldn't snap back. That just... was wrong.
Besides, the girl was sort of cute. But just sort of.
Trusith gave up on puzzling out his grandfather, twisting his head to look over Natai's shell. Oh! So pretty!

Do not walk away. Do not walk away. Do not walk away. Natai flinched again before Trusith brought up Grandfather, blinking up to the pair of them with a slow, somewhat hesitant smile. She <3'd her grandfather. He was nice. "My Grandfather is Overseer M'onk. He has the sniffles or - or something, and he says I shouldn't catch it."
She didn't stand, still crouching and turning the shell over in her hand. Natai missed the look of suspicion in Yari's eyes - a good thing, she'd scurry back and away - but instead hear the approval. She did, however, catch that little smile, and returned it with something a bit more warmer. This she could handle! The nicer ones.
"Would you like to keep it?" Natai stood up, ignoring the little shower of sand from dress to ground, and offered it out to the brown dragon. "Or... rather, where are we putting them? Do you have a basket?" Annnd look at that, she looked at Yari, blinking curiously. "Where are we putting them? Yari." She added, some sort of afterthought. And a smile. Oh yes! See what being nice gets you, Yari?

Oh. Oh shards. Yari had snapped at the overseer's grand-daughter? Yari swallowed a bit nervously, but passed off her sudden fear with an arrogant tilt of her chin. "M'onk?" She asked, her voice a bit softer now. The girl seemed skittish... and she was related to M'onk. "Tell him I hope he feels better soon." M'onk was a man she could respect. Positively ancient, but he'd kept the Weyr from falling apart in the old Warden's aftermath. Though, Yari thought a bit bitterly, she could do a much better job as Warden then either of the bronzeriding idiots that were in charge now.
The warm smile made Yari's face heat up, a look of surprise passing over her. Natai was smiling at her? Even after Yari had apparently frightened her. Embarrassed by being caught off guard, Yari's face reddened a bit more and she looked to the ocean, apparently fascinated by it. Maybe she was okay with Natai being around for bit. She... seemed nice. Yari liked nice. Maybe Natai could be her... semi-friendly acquaintance.
"Ah. No." Yari remarked, a bit embarrassed. "Can your firelizard grab one? I'd send Jade, but she's a brat." She glared over her shoulder at the firelizard, who was flipping head over heels in a variety of gestures. Instead, Yari held out a hand for the shell. "I'll hold them." Yari offered, her voice a bit shy. The smile made her look away again, her face set in something oddly similar to a pout. Why did Natai have to make her feel bad by being adorable? Yari hadn't even been that mean!
We just need a little basket! We do not need many shells at all. Trusith butted in, his tail lashing. If you could get lots of little shells that look alike, that'd be good.
"I'll help."

"M'onk." Natai rubbed her thumb against the shell, eyes skirting away again. Oh, did she ever know that tone of voice and particular expression on Yari's face; everyone who happened to be not overly nice to her and then found out about M'onk got that expression and tone. Yes, Yari, she could fuck you up with her connections, and luckily she was not the sort to be anything more then a wee bit hurt that it took that to make friends. "I'll make sure to tell him. It's just a bit of the sniffles, luckily, but I'll tell him."
Rumple trilled when Yari brought attention to her, because yes, yes she was awesome and deserved the attentions. Natai giggled, her head half-cocked to peek at Rumple. The firelizard nibbled at Natai's hair before vanishing off to presumably go fetch a basket. The pout threw her off, though the hand out and the shy part... Perhaps Trusith had been right, and she was a shy creature.
Or something.
So Natai gave her the shell, lips pursed into a tight little smile to keep herself from giggling again. Shy people were good! They were better then the angry ones. "How many shells are you looking for, then? Who is the necklace for? Rumple is looking for a basket or something in my room right now."
