Snowth was lonely, as of late. While it was true that her rider was always there with her mentally, the poor boy was usually off working in the detox area or studying his letters. He had little time for Snowth beyond the occasional help with his studies and oiling and washing her. A more jealous dragon would have been on the verge of a tantrum, but Snowth understood. It was best that he learn, and she would wait until he had secured his position in the prison. Instead, she flew with the patrols when she could and helped out in little ways when she couldn't.
Snowth liked helping.
Tonight, however, there was little to do aside from the patrols. It was her own break from flying, but she was not tired. She should have been, by all means, but there was a strange restlessness in Snowth. She didn't ponder it, instead leaving F'ox's hut alone to roam the grounds. It was late, but not late enough that the human Weyrlings would be sleeping. She could only hope that the dragonets weren't.
Her trek ended at the weyrling area, green eyes passing over it in mild curiosity. Before Snowth knew what she was doing, her mind reached out to tentatively contact those within the barracks. Snowth was lonely, and while she was usually the type to keep to herself she today craved the contact of other dragons. Her younger siblings were the perfect candidates for a chat.
Um, hello? Snowth's voice was shy, easily brushed away and ignored by those who didn't want to listen. Would... anyone like to talk with me? I'm Snowth. Hopefully at least one little Weyrling would come to give her company. Snowth would appreciate it.

Afilith stirred. He hadn't been sleeping, really, merely dozing, and Snowth's voice was enough to snap him back to alertness. He raised his head and peered through the darkness over at his bonded, who was sitting up and looking back at him.
May I go? I do not like anyone to be lonely and she feels friendly.
"Yeah, that's Snowth. She's a very friendly dragon and I bet you'll like her." R'en grinned softly, apparently amused that his bonded had forgotten the other dragon so quickly. Then again, dragons didn't have spectacular memories and their first meeting had been brief and uneventful.
I think I will go and speak with her, then, the silver said cheerfully, standing and stretching. Friendly is good company. Are you coming? He nosed at R'en curiously, and was rewarded by having his eye-ridge scratched.
"I don't think so. Lot to think about. Lot to get ready for. Besides, it'll be fun, going out and doing things on your own!" Whatever anyone thought about the Weyr's lone silver, R'en was not of the mind that he should be kept under lock and key, supervised at all times. He was a dragon just like any other dragon and deserved a bit of freedom!
"There, there's your goodnight scratch. Now go on, go!" R'en pushed at Afilith's snout, laughing as the dragon nosed closer affectionately. He really couldn't imagine what life had been like without this. Eventually, though, Afilith gave up the quest for more scratches and turned, trotting briskly from the weyr in search of Excellent Company.
I am coming!

Empirith raised his head when Snowth started talking to them. He looked over to where K'dan was starting to fidget, his lips moving a bit as he tried to copy down without really understanding what he was doing the letters from a scroll. It would do his some good to be elsewhere and not be working himself up like that. And Empirith did like the company of other dragons, he was bored here when people were sleeping Greetings, Snowth. I am Empirith. I would like to come and talk to you. May my rider come as well? He would be most upset if I left him alone.
He got up, going to nudge his rider. K'dan smiled up at him and reached up to scratch his eyeridges. Empirith liked that. He was always so itchy, scratching was nice. Maybe he could get his rider to oil him while they talked to Snowth. Snowth is bored. May we go talk to her?
Log made an indignant sound from the pillow where he was curled up. Had he been forgotten? He was disappoint! Empirith should have thought of him!

Chereth had been about to settle down to sleep when Snowth asked for company. She leapt to her feet and said Wait a bit, Snowth! I'll be out soon. She turned to affectionately headbutt Corvis before nudging Pest into grumpy awakeness. Corvismine, Snowth wants company. Do you want to come?
Corvis, while not expecting Chereth to get up as suddenly as she had, wasn't startled enough to miss that she had accidentally knocked over several things while standing. "Sorry, Chereth, I'd have to clean first. You can go on your own if you want...?"
Chereth trilled sadly, but started to trot to where Snowth was waiting. Snowth sounded lonely, and she couldn't have that!
Pest followed, mostly because he wanted to see what the big yellow thing had woken him up about. He didn't think it could be as important as a nap, but it could be. Besides, Big Yellow Thing might hurt herself if she went out on her own, and he couldn't have that.

Snowth almost lost her nerve at all the replies, her wings snapping shut against her back. She dropped her head, a snort escaping her. But she'd already invited them, and she would just have to pull on her big girl straps and be as brave as she could. F'ox was being brave, and so would Snowth! Even if being brave just meant talking to a bunch of baby dragons.
Of course he can come, little one. Snowth replied to the pink, her voice soft and maternal. She would never dream of refusing to allow a rider to accompany their dragon. She sat, her eyes whirling a now content blue that was only slightly tinged with yellow.
The weyrlings hadn't arrived yet, but Snowth let out a soft trill of greeting. Ice, who was curled between her shoulder blades, echoed her greeting with a great deal of boredom. Would babies be coming to make things loud and noisy? Tch. The blue leaped into the air, flashing between. He'd rather not be around noisy babies.
Ah... would you like to hear a story? She asked the weyrlings as they began to trickle into the area she was in. F'ox had told her one just the night before, and Snowth was confident that she could remember it well enough to retell it. I know a good one...

We would, ma'am. Obeth answered as he led S'nar outside. The young man hadn't been getting much sleep anyway, since he had been fretting over returning a bracelet that Desert had 'found' somewhere and brought to him. Why not listen to the wisdom of their seniors? It would be more useful than coaxing his rider into relaxing enough to fall asleep. Maybe S'nar would become tired enough to overcome his worrying after some time standing at attention.
Obeth's rider, on the other hand, just wanted to find whoever Desert had taken that bracelet from. He would have rather not been nudged outside by his brown for whatever reason (Southern continent or not, winter at night was chilly enough to be uncomfortable in his opinion), and especially not for a reason that did not involve preventing someone from being angry with him.
"...Obeth, what are you doing?" S'nar asked as they walked up to where Snowth was waiting. When they reached the green, he sat down on the ground and wrapped his arms around his legs.
Unfortunately, he was promptly nudged back on his feet. Be respectful, Senar. We must not be lazy in front of our betters, Obeth chided him. This lady is offering us her knowledge, and it would not do to reject it.

Empirith thought about this. He didn't really like fables and the like, although they did offer an interesting basis to study philosophy and draconic nature... He looked over at his rider as they walked in, noting that K'dan was the only human in the room so far. He looked a little nervous, crowding next to Empirith. The pink suddenly spotted another human who had been sitting on the ground, obscured by the weyrlings. He made a beeline for him. Good evening, Obeth. Do you mind if my K'dan stands next to S'nar? He is feeling a little out of place.
K'dan smiled shyly at the other Weyrling, recognising him from the hatching. Empirith quietly provided names in his mind. "Hi," he murmured. "How's Obeth doing?"
He glanced over at the green who was bigger than any of the other dragons. Snowth, no doubt. Empirith transmitted her offer to him and he smiled shyly. "We'd love to hear a story," he told her. "I love stories."
Thank you for your kind offer, Snowth. How is your F'ox doing? And little Rage? I do believe your tiny green is a clutchsib to our little brown.
Log, who had decided to tag along despite not being invited, had recognised Snowth. He recognised Snowth because he remembered his clutchsib Rage. He had a surprisingly good memory of his disappointing clutchsibs. He chirped at the big green, wondering where Rage had disappeared to.
