Corvis
Name: Corvis
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Prisoner: Yes
Crime: Dust Manufacture, Dust possession, Dust distribution
Craft/Rank: None, unless you count drug manufacture as a craft.
Appearance: (You may have a PB if you like, but a written description is still required.)
Corvis is not the most masculine man out there, to put it mildly. He's slender, almost to the point of effeminate, in his build, and generally only immediately notable because what the hell kinda guy is 5'1" (answer: a short one). His hair's a true black, just above shoulder length, and almost perpetually messy. His eyes are a very dark green, with long eyelashes. He's somewhat fair-skinned, with a clear complexion.
Basically, he's a pretty boy. A pretty boy with horrific scars on his arms and hands from various accidents resulting from him not paying attention when handling dangerous things. Like hot metal, for instance. Or knives. Or angry firelizards.
Personality: (At least two paragraphs. The more detailed the better, especially for candidates. This is what we will use to decide impressions, after all.)
Corvis is... spacey, to say the least. He has severe difficulty focusing on any one thing, which gives most people the impression that he's as bright as a sack of bricks. This impression isn't helped by the fact that he is almost relentlessly cheerful about... everything, really. He has his solemn moments, but they are far and few between, and usually fairly brief, at least to observers.
This does not mean that he is unintelligent. He's actualy quite bright, but generally doesn't actively use his brains unless he's trying to make a good impression on someone--be it because he likes them or that making a good impression on them would make his life easier--although he does surprise people with fairly complex ideas. It generally only works to a certain extent, though, as he tends to get distracted by something shiny in the middle of trying to impress them/speak. HIS LIFE IS RIDDLED WITH THE EFFECTS OF SEVERE ADHD. IT IS A SAD THING and it would be more so if he ever actually noticed that he has the social skills and attention span of a brain-damaged magpie. As it is, he has no idea why people tend to think he's useless and possibly insane.
He's also very, very, very eager to please people he likes (or, in the case of Warden, is absolutely terrified of), and will do damn near anything to gain their favor, or at least keep them from thinking him useless. He is very tired of being thought of as useless.
He's also extremely fond of dragons and their relatives, and they are one of the few things that will hold his exclusive attention for extended periods of time; if given the chance, he becomes the crazy flit guy. Which is part of the reason that he does not want to get on the guards' bad side, ever.
Sounds like a nice (if somewhat troubled) boy, yes? Oh yes, he would be... if it weren't for the fact that people he hasn't met are little more than vague abstractions to him. If he's never seen someone and something bad has happened to them, he'll feel sad for a bit and maybe pity them some, but he probably won't act on it because they just don't register as people. This is why he was able to blithely make and sell Dust for several years without the slightest pang of guilt until he was actually faced with how Dust users react to it. Then he promptly went into denial, because why have a healthy way of handling shock when you can deny that you've helped royally screw up the lives of other people.
History: (At least two paragraphs, please consult the timeline when writing)
The youngest son of a weaver, Corvis lived a fairly uneventful life before he started making Dust; his two brothers were fairly skilled at the crafts they chose, and had intended to help their younger brother not be a total failure at life. Despite their best efforts, though, he was never particularly good at most crafts; the ones he didn't find exceptionally dull required that he not be distracted by shiny things in the middle of doing something. Eventually, though, he found something that did keep his interest: making Dust.
By this point he was 21, and was used to being called useless by anyone who wasn't family, so finding something he was good at,
He couldn't exactly deny the charges--he was caught in the middle of making Dust, after all--and went along with the Watch without resistance. Why make things harder for yourself by irritating your captors? was his logic for this, and while it's not a bad idea, exactly, it was one of the many things he did not really think through.
He's spent the past two turns being a very well-behaved spacecase, partially because he really has no reason to intentionally irritate the guards or other prisoners. He also actually enjoys prison life, to a certain extent; the routine, however dull he finds it, helps his ability to function somewhat, after all, and he does at least recognize that much, even if he doesn't know why.
Other stuff:
I have based most of his ADHD symptoms on more severe versions of what I experience. vOv If you think I need to tone it down some, I'm quite willing to do so.
Pets
Name: Pest
Species: Firelizard
Color: Blue
Appearance: Dark blue dorsal stripe, sky blue underbelly and wing webbing, plain blue otherwise. Fairly lean.
Personality: Pest is a little ball of anger and hate towards everything that is not Corvis or food. He will tolerate people who give him food, but if he thinks anything at all could possibly be leading towards Corvis being hurt, he will change his mind and start biting the hand that fed him. Or the arm. Or the face. Or the leg... Basically Pest was born angry, and the only reason he isn't as avoided as a wasp nest is because he's too lazy to do more than hiss and threaten most of the time. He also expresses love with biting. Lots and lots of affectionate biting.
Gold Cinnabon from the Sugar and Spice Egg
Appearance: Cinnabon is a very pale gold. Her hide is touched with pink gold on her wings, the end of her tail, and very slightly on her face around her snout and eyes, reminiscent of the strawberry toppings often seen on the food that is her namesake. Like her mother, her wings are large for her body, and her head is unusually long, giving her a delicate air. Like all golds, she shines, but Cinnabon shines particularly brightly -- almost as though she has more than the usual allotment of sparkle.
Personality: Cinnabon is a fundamentally loving creature. Again like her mother, she is somewhat shy, and quite humble -- unlike many queens, Cinnabon is a quiet, nurturing force rather than a loud, demanding one. In all that she does she is unobtrusive, but you will never fail to notice her: she radiates an aura of elegance, grace and simple presence. She can light up any room and turn any frown upside down with her sweet and earnest nature. Her owner will have only the best and most meticulous care she can lavish upon them, as will all of their friends, pets, and any clutch she mothers.
Chereth
Name: Chereth
Art Type Art Nouveau
Hex Code: FFCC00
Appearance
Even when it comes to mere looks, there's something about Chereth that says 'playful'. She's a bit on the round side, no hard angles or scrawny bits to be seen. She's of average size for her color, otherwise. A bit heavier than most, yes, but no longer. In the air, she's all about stamina, not trick flying or speed.
Her hide is amber, with swirls of paler yellow. (Leaving this bit vague until Noz decides how to art her).
Personality:
There are those (especially among her clutchmates) that might accuses Chereth of being frivolous. And while the accusation isn't entirely unfair, it also grows out of a lack of understanding. Yes, it's true, Chereth is often lighthearted and likes to have fun. But it's not that she doesn't know that the world she lives in is a dangerous one. No, Chereth acts the way she does because the world she lives in is a dangerous one. If she doesn't bring a levity to the world, who will? Gravitath? That was a joke. What, not a single laugh? No worries, she'll just try again.
Chereth may be surrounded by the hide-bound and the duty obsessed, but it doesn't get her down. She can smile until it hurts, metaphorically speaking. Her approach to even the darkest of subjects is one of pragmatic optimism. Sure, things suck. So, best deal with it, so that everyone can unwind, maybe have a nice beach party. Obsessing never helped anyone. And yes, sometimes she jokes about subjects that hurt, but sometimes making jokes about painful things is the best way to cope. If Chereth's sense of humor is dark, it's a result of her environment. She'd joke about nicer things if there was only anything nicer to joke about. As it is, well, she's just got to make due with the material at hand.
As the self appointed life of the party, Chereth is a hard dragon to shake. She will make friends with every last one of her clutchmates (including those clutchers from another mother, they hatched on the same sands, that's enough for her) and she doesn't really care what they might have to say about it. It's very hard to discourage Chereth. Insults roll right off her back and she's more than happy to return them with a playful nudge. Aggression is treated as an invitation to wrestle. No matter how deep into their shell a dragon might burrow, Chereth is the dragon who'll burrow deeper. She often seems to show a perverse fondness for those who claim to like her least.
Chereth really does smile until it hurts and keep on smiling. And that means that sometimes, beneath the laughter and friendly teasing, Chereth hurts. It's just hard to see. She's not dumb, she's not blind, she just knows that the world needs someone willing to sparkle no matter how dark it gets. She may act naive at times but she's one dragon who knows what she's doing. When the hurt gets to be too much, Chereth's rider will be the one to hear all the bitter, petty things she'd never share with anyone else. Oh, she'll keep sparkling but she might be making some cynical asides even as she does it.
Why Me?
Come, now. If a girl wants to have a bit of fun, how could she pass Corvis by? Sure, he's a bit easily distracted but in Chereth's mind, that just means that they can try lots of new things instead of only one or two. His eagerness to please appeals to her, as she's a people pleaser in her own way. But unlike Corvis, who often has trouble remembering that people are people, Chereth is always concerned about others and their feelings. She'll help remind him that he's not the only one who's real, and together they just might keep the class's spirit up
