Leevi
Name: Leevi
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Prisoner: No
Crime: N/A
Craft/Rank: Journeyman mindhealer
Appearance: Let’s get this straight: Leevi looks younger than he is. And he’s young enough as it is. He looks as though he just barely started shaving or is just barely acquainted with the concept of shaving. With a complete babyface and a slim build, he’s not the manliest man to ever man something. It’s not that he’s feminine. Not at all. He’s just... not very mature looking, especially among the rough and tumble world of Warden’s Weyr.
His dark brown hair is ridiculously curly. He keeps it cut short mostly just for the convenience. He doesn’t have time to worry about his appearance. He’s got patients to look after! His eyes are hazel. Nothing special. Just a sort of brownish-green thing going on there. Moving on…
He’s rarely seen without a smile. He’s one of those annoyingly chipper guys who practically fart sparkles and rainbows. Even a threat against his life will bring a generally calm and collected, ‘And how does that make you feel?’ Yes, he legitimately and non-ironically uses this line. A lot.
With his almost inexhaustible supply of optimism, it would be easy to dismiss Leevi as someone who’s never encountered true hardship. That’s not true at all and his back bears testament to this with an array of old whip scars.
Personality: More than anything in the world, Leevi whole-heartedly and completely believes that broken people can be saved. He needs to believe that. People are basically good at heart. It’s just that circumstances sometimes force them to do bad things or they are just confused about the ‘right’ thing to do. It’s a decidedly naive way to look at the world and he’ll freely admit it.
When people don’t follow this, when people are just plain broken psychopaths, Leevi is fascinated. His morbid fascination can be disturbing for others. It’s not that he admires killers or anything. He just wants to understand why they do the things they do and he’s quite good at figuring out why. He’s also very good at ferreting out lies. Little facial tics, small muscle spasms… he’s good at reading people, which is invaluable in his Craft. Just because he’s naïve doesn’t mean he’s gullible. He’s also not about to say, ‘Well, since your father beat you as a kid, that completely explains why you went out and killed six women!’ or something. He does not hand out excuses.
What he doesn’t do well is face his own issues. Leevi prefers to just pretend they don’t exist and never have existed. How very silly of you to even ask! In fact, your insistence at trying to pry at his own problems must be a symptom of something on your side. Let’s discuss that…
Although he tries to keep completely impartial, he’s a very emotional guy. He simply tries to keep things neatly compartmentalized so it won’t affect his work. When he’s depressed, he’s very depressed. We’re talking full-blown angst-leaking OH-WOE-IS-ME sort of thing. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen very often.
He’s also sensitive. Sure, he’ll tolerate abuse from people, but it gets to him. He has a tendency to take small comments and focus on them until they become big things to him and then he just completely misinterprets them. If these comments come from someone he really admires, that’s when he starts getting into the woe-is-me stage of things. He’s a terrible liar. I mean, ‘OH, I NEED TO RUN, MY DOG IS ON FIRE’ type of lying.
History:
Family:
--Levina (Biological mother) – 43 – Journeyman Harper
--Everri (Biological father) – 45 – Journeyman Tannercrafter
--L’ser of Green Ilruth (adoptive father) – deceased
--Ronana of Blue Zhayth (adoptive mother) – deceased
Leevi was born in High Reaches Hold to a perfectly normal family. Well, almost perfectly normal except for the abuse. Everri was a naturally angry man. It didn’t matter what else happened during his day. Just one little thing would set him off and he’d always blame it on either his wife or child. Levina didn’t cook the food fast enough or Leevi was too loud or he was too quiet or he was somehow just in the way. That was the main problem; Everri always perceived his son as being ‘in the way’ of his life in general, as though the young boy was put on the earth specifically to slow him down. Soon enough, Levina believed it too. Everything could be safely blamed on the child; that way, she’d get away without injuries.
But that sort of abuse doesn’t go unnoticed for long. Leevi was acting out, becoming aggressive towards other children because it was what he knew from home. It didn’t take long for people to become suspicious of his home life.
When Leevi was eight, he was taken away from his parents and fostered out to a childless elderly couple in High Reaches Weyr. They gave him the love that his biological parents couldn’t. Quite honestly, Leevi believes that they saved him. They made him a better person, forming the core of his current belief system. He chose his Craft at a young age (10 turns) specifically because he wanted to learn more about why his real parents acted the way they did. His adoptive parents weren’t so keen on this; they felt it was… well… unhealthy of Leevi to focus so much on the past.
Leevi was determined though. He really truly and honestly wanted to understand the human mind and, more specifically, what happened when things were just plain broken in it. Mindhealing was a natural destination for him. He proved to be a sharp student, as well as a very passionate one. He advanced quickly in his studies, walking the tables at the very young age of eighteen turns.
He chose to remain at High Reaches Hold to look after his aging parents. They were already old when they adopted him, to be honest, and he was acquainted enough with health to see the signs. They passed away when he was 22 turns. They died happy. That was really all that Leevi could ask for.
Recently, he moved to Warden’s Weyr to advance his studies. It’s all very well and good to study the abnormal mind from afar, but you have to talk to people eventually. Otherwise, it’s just not the same.
Other stuff: I’d like Leevi to be considered for Impression, although he won’t ICly Stand.
Pets
Name: Kay
Species: Firelizard
Color: Gold
Appearance: She’s a dusky gray-gold all over, with occasional patches of darker or lighter gold. It gives her a sort of patchwork look to her, as though she was put together from whatever was lying around at the time.
She’s also fat. Not ‘a little chubby’, but truly and honestly fat. When you poke her, it takes a while for her flub to stop jiggling. In addition to being fat, she has a very large build. Big-boned and big-fatted. Poor thing.
Personality: Sweet. She’s amazingly sweet and loving. Sure, she’s so stupid that she’d try to blow out glows, but she’s extremely cuddly. Everyone is her very best friend forever! Especially if they have food. No, really. Give her something to eat and she’ll adore you forever and always. Given her rather limited intelligence, it is nigh impossible for her to learn things, much to Leevi’s disappointment. At least she’s very stable in temperament. She’s the basis of Leevi’s idea of ‘firelizard therapy’. A lot of patients----he refuses to call them prisoners, because of the ‘negative energy’ that gives off-----have trouble connecting with humans anyway. He hopes that a dear sweet firelizard helps them open up more.
… just in case, he likes to have a large and heavily armed guard standing just outside the room. He’s naïve. Not stupid. |:
