Ragniel
Name: Ragniel
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Prisoner: Yes
Crime: Murder (so, so many counts), attempting to harm a dragon
Craft/Rank: Journeyman Dyemaker
Appearance: Ragniel is decidedly unremarkable, at least when standing still. Average height, very, very short brown hair, brown eyes, and what is best described as a “face-shaped face”. She looks like she’s made of sticks; there isn’t very much to her at all. Her most noticeable feature is her severe limp; she was injured as a child and the leg never healed right. It gives her a very distinctive gait and makes stealth and speed nearly impossible for her, at least when there’s a bunch of foliage and sticks around. She normally wears a brace to make it easier for her to walk, but she didn't have it on her at the time of the breakout so she's currently going leg brace-less.
Personality: Quiet, unemotional, stoic.
None of those words describe Ragniel. When she feels something, it is obvious. Because she will be loud about it; loud and obnoxious and sometimes even violent. The one small mercy is that she normally at least act very upbeat. Her emotional expression is over the top, to the point of seeming faked. And, sometimes, it is. She is perfectly willing to be sweet to someone she hates passionately, and pretend to mourn their sudden death if it means that she will get something useful out of it.
You see, for the most part she thinks of people as tools, or at least means to an end. And tools can be broken and discarded without a second thought. She’ll be a tad miffed if someone she found particularly useful breaks in some way, and will generally try to keep her tools from breaking, but if they do break she’ll move on and find more tools. The only exception to this mindset are the few who remind her of her older sister; while for the most part they get the same vaguely feline indifference she gives anyone who doesn’t anger her, she’ll also be significantly more likely to try to help them if they ask for it, and won’t try to use them. Unfortunately for the rare few she actually likes, she gets a great deal more protective and vengeful and expects them to appreciate it. After all, she’s keeping them safe! …Even if they don’t know it. After all, it’s hard to keep people safe when they have this silly little insistence on you not getting revenge on everyone who hurts them.
She does have a somewhat… warped… sense of honor. Most people are relatively safe from her (Which, given that talking to her for extended periods of time is like being in a dark room filled with turrets and you can only tell which ones won’t shoot out your legs by standing in front of them, doesn’t mean much), as are most people who commit nonviolent crime, but murderers, rapists, and abusers are fair game. She’s not murdering people, you see; she’s merely acting as an agent of justice gone undelivered. (This is what happens when you have your serial killer baby sister act as a vigilante to control her, kids. :|b ) She is aware that she is on that list, incidentally. It’s less that she thinks she’s better than them and more that she has a job to do (that job being “kill other murderers”).
This sense of honor doesn't stop her from killing outside of her prefered targets, however; she finds it distasteful and works to avoid it, but if someone caught her killing someone, she'd make a decent attempt to kill them before they could get away no matter who they were. Admittedly, this tendency was what led to her getting caught, but only because attacking a guy who has telepathic backup is a bad idea. It had worked quite well before that.
History:
Ragniel had a long streak of doing her best to pretend to be relatively normal. This included acting like a good little girl, even though she didn't really see the point to. But playing along meant that she didn't get punished, and she liked not being punished. Eventually, however, someone noticed: her half-sister, Silune, who was not exactly "normal" herself. Silune took Ragniel under her wing, and immediately began to attempt to instill a sense of justice in her. She was fourteen when she had killed her first human, an arsonist. She nearly lost use of her right leg, and while the man was dead, it was a very near thing.
After that, she resolved to be less careless. She began tracking the people Silune pointed her at; all men and women who fit the "deserving death" category in her worldview, all of whom could kill her easily if she wasn't careful, what with the whole bad leg thing. So she tried to be careful, tried to avoid situations where she couldn't limp her way to relative safety, and Silune did her best to hide all evidence that pointed to them.
During all this, she slowly worked her way up as a dyemaker with Silune. It was the perfect job, to their minds; her clothes were already stained with dye, and since saying that dyes smelt horrific was something of an understatement, she could go into the nastier parts of the surrounding areas without standing out too badly from smell alone. The kill count got higher, and they continued to escape notice (at least in part because by this point Ragniel had learned through previous narrow escapes and lectures from Silune that leaving witnesses is a BAD THING).
Then Silune was murdered. Ragniel took it very poorly; while most observers dismissed it as ordinary grief because of how close they had been, and there was actual grief there, it was mostly rage. She immediately devoted her spare time to tracking down the killer, and while it wasn't quite to the point where her work suffered, it became increasingly obvious to observers that something was not right. Mostly because Silune had been the handler to her wher and while she kept what had been hammered into her by Silune, she didn't have someone to monitor how close to normal she was acting and correct her when she deviated too much anymore.
A year after Silune died, Ragniel found out who had killed her. She stalked him to a secluded area, and killed him. A Watch member saw her, and she attacked him without thinking much beyond "Did he see me --> Yes --> Kill? --> Also yes". Of course, he had telepathic backup and she was quickly surrounded and arrested for murder. She was promptly shipped to Warden's, and was there for roughly a month before she broke out with the rest of the outlaws.
