K'yne
Name: K'yne (Formerly Kaeyne)
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Prisoner: No.
Craft/Rank: Dragon Watch rider
Appearance: K'yne is a short, thick individual with vaguely feminine facial features. He barely hits 5'6" and while on the slim side, his body doesn't curve in the slightest. There is no charming little 'v' from shoulders to waist - K'yne is an entirely solid bit of muscle borne from years of the physical work of childhood and even more of them in the Watch.
He has a darkly olive complexion and thick black hair to the mid-back he keeps tied back in a short knot at the base of his skull. His face is delicately boned with high cheekbones, hooded almond shaped brown eyes, and full lips. Age and stress have started to line his face with delicate crows feet crinkling at the sides of his eyes and the light wrinkles on the sides of his mouth when he smiles.
K'yne enjoys colors - if dyed clothing is at hand, he will wear it. The majority of his wardrobe consists of red and black tunics and pants. While he carries a knife on his hip, K'yne is dangerous enough without them, him and his bright wardrobe. He doesn't need the weapons.
Personality: K'yne is the closest thing you will find to a wher in human form. Oh, he's pretty enough, and he's smart as a whip, that's for sure, but beyond it all, the man is a beast. Fierce, intense, and undeniably arrogant, K'yne has no problems in using force to get what is needed from a situation, and sees the world in black and white. A problem is a problem, a not-problem is not a problem, simple as that. To the point and not much caring for the in between. It isn't to say he is a sociopath, or in any way crazy - K'yne just has a harsh attitude in general, something he tries to keep under wraps with a general lack of speaking or, when he converses, a dry sense of humor. 'Wry' would be the best definition.
On that same matter of intelligence, K'yne does not lack. No genius, K'yne is smart enough to know how to push a persons buttons. He doesn't go out of his way to do so most of the time, but if it's required for him to get from Point A to Point B and he wants to be at Point B, he'll button mash the hell out of what he can find. He does try o use his words before going on the offensive, honestly he does, but there are always going to be lines that can be crossed. Some people may just want to beat the living snot out of a person that needed to be taught a lesson. With K'yne, that person will stay down; he makes sure that the opposition will not be bothering him or his ever again, and Ramoth forbid you pull a dirty trick on A'tsu in a fight. K'yne does not forgive. He does not forget. And he will always get even.
On that note: don't mess with A'tsu. Every person has a beserker button, and K'yne is no exception. While A'tsu is his second, the man who always has his back, that will always be returned. K'yne has more loyalty towards his lover than for anyone else in Pern, and if you fuck with A'tsu, try to pull a knife on him from behind or even talk trash about the baldheaded guy, K'yne will mess you up dirty. Even if he is no longer a young spring chicken, K'yne has passion in him, a violent, seething, cold passion.
In terms of life in general, K'yne prefers to be in charge. Oh, this doesn't mean he needs to be Squadleader, or that he is after that shiny gold that is rising, no. It's about the small things: how those chores are done, how well his dragon is oiled, whether or not the drills are being done correctly regardless of what the leader at that time says. Sometimes things needed to be changed because they are wrong, even if other people don't think so. It's called having confidence.
Or, you know, Arrogance.
No matter the color he rides, K'yne holds himself to very high and exacting standards - he is the best, and his weyrmate is as well, by proxy if nothing else. He takes care of his appearance and clothes, works hard, continuously pushes himself to the end of his stamina. It can take a voiced concern from A'tsu to get him to calm down enough to get a full nights rest, or stop and relax for the day (which, for them, means sparring). All the same, he is not above light teasing if another person works too hard, or, in his eyes, stretches themselves too thin. There are double-standards; not everyone is as capable as he is, or Adetsu is, and K'yne at least understands that much.
Despite everything negative said, K'yne can actually be quite personable. He enjoys a crowd, a debate, the throng of people and not being alone. His partners constant presence helps a great deal but it doesn't mean he won't eat in the middle of a mess hall when alone. K'yne is sarcastic in his sense of humor and very opinionated when he feels the need to speak rather than just stay quiet and listen, or talk only to his partner. It's only when someone gets on his badside that they will see the darkness in him. His loyalty is hard earned, and very easily lost when it comes to a betrayal. A person does not bounce back from losing his trust, A'tsu being the only one to hold it entirely.
K'yne likes children. He has none himself, but he enjoys the somewhat quieter ones, and is very good with infants in particular, screaming or not. He does not have any of his own (that he is aware of), nor does he have plans to, but he likes them.
History: Simply put: K'yne was the Pern version of a crack baby.
Born to a very young and Dust-addicted girl and her pimp, Kaeyne came out a little bit blue and a little under a month premature. The kindest (and only) thing they did for him was to give the child to the creche - still a bit bloody, but no longer blue. Kaeyne survived, albeit smaller than most of the other children. He cried and screamed his way through infancy before being fostered off at six to a childless couple, both tanners.
An so began his teaching in tanning. The young boy had a knack for it but, at twelve, he discovered the newly formed Dragon Watch. They had uniforms, discipline. Power. He wanted that. He wanted it all.
Kaeyne became a professional Candidate, though he continued to apprentice in his craft. Kaeyne stood for several clutches, only to get nary a glance from any of the dragonets. He worked and made his way, distracting himself with any man or woman that thought him interesting enough to persue.
It stayed the same until he was nearly twenty four turns old. On that day, a bright sunny thing, Kaeyne went to the Weyrbowl to be alone. There, he met a quiet man with deadened eyes and pain in his voice. The meeting ended in physical blows and a sort of comradery.
That same comradery grew to respect, and respect to friendship. The two went through Candidacy together and despite Kaeyne's uneasiness at being separated they both Impressed. Kaeyne became K'yne of Green Calith. In Weyrlinghood, life decided to change on K'yne again, and he fell in love. You know, the inappropriate sort of love one should not feel for their closest friend, especially not with an infant dragon in their head. Regardless, it happened, and K'yne expressed it the best way he knew how: by not doing a damn thing and carrying on as if the feelings weren't there.
In the end, A'tsu started it. He moved first. K'yne reciprocated. Both dragons gone, and with no restrictions, that was that.
They joined the watch together. A'tsu had the higher ranking dragon and K'yne had A'tsu. They remained in the same squad, and since the duo worked well together, there were no real reasons for a person to say 'no'.
Some years later, Warden's had a riot - a breakout. They needed more guards, transfers, to help. Why not? He went, and A'tsu with him.
Other stuff: He called A'tsu 'Adetsumine'. I think it's cute, so it goes here. Sorry.
Pets
Name: Temper
Species: Firelizard
Color: Brown
Appearance: Medium sized for his color and a solid milk-chocolate color, Temper is nothing worthwhile in a firelizard. K'yne likes him just fine, though.
Personality: Despite his name, Temper is a sweetheart. He threw a fit when small and had only dried firelizard meat to be fed, hence the title of Temper, but now grown and often stuffed full of fresh meat, he dotes on both His and the dragon K'yne impressed. Temper enjoys fresh wherrie.
Calith
Name: Calith
Color: Green
Age: 12
Appearance: Calith is beautiful and elegant. She has a long neck and dainty wings. And she knows this. She is a brilliant emerald green and his hard to miss. She has some darker patterning snaking around her legs, almost like vines, and her wingsails are a bit paler, but all in all, she is a striking girl. She is on the large end for greens, but her elegant build makes her look a bit smaller than she is.
Personality: Calith is a vain little thing. Like her rider, she is very self-confident, to the point of arrogance, mainly based on how pretty she thinks herself. However, unlike her rider, she is loyal to a fault and rarely rude to those she likes. Once she is in a wing and has established a relationship with other dragons and riders, she will do anything for them and she has a very good sense of hierarchy, so she is never openly defiant to those who are her superiors. She is in fact very happy to be of service to those who are her superiors, especially if they flatter her when they ask her to do anything. Or even if they ask nicely. Calith likes it when people are nice to her and returns kindness with a sunny attitude. On the flip side, she tends to respond to surliness with offended sarcasm and snippiness.
Calith is not the sharpest tool in the shed. However she knows this and is ok with this. K'yne is smart, a fact that she is very proud of and likes to boast about, and so he can make the decisions for the both of them. She does understand her rider's vindictiveness and although she herself would never hurt a fly, she has been known to supply ideas for insults during a verbal spar and she does not mind if he fights a bit. As long as he does not get hurt. She would be very upset if he got hurt and she reminds him of this often, which is why she approves of his sparring so that he stays in shape and never gets hurt.
She has her rider's work ethic and strives for perfection in everything she does. She also strives to maintain her appearance perfect, which sometimes includes harassing her rider for oiling and grooming.
Why me? Calith chose K'yne because she admired his good looks. Or that's what she always says. In fact she felt drawn to his inner strength and hard-working nature, as well as his confidence. She knew that she would complement him well, since her more trusting nature can even out his reticence to trust and his confidence would keep her feeling secure and would ensure that she would never become a needy, whiny green. After all, why would one need to be a needy green when one's rider is always confident in one's mind and he is certain that you are the prettiest green on Pern?
