At one time, likely at least decades ago, the continent Enva was home to numerous thriving nations. Home to humans and even more thinking, sapient, races. If not all of them kept close and friendly ties, at least their leaders had an interest in keeping the peace. Aided in this by several groups and orders, often with a military or peacekeeper purpose. Noteable among these being the order of the Dragon Knights-- the only ones to know how to deal with dragons. The hows of they kept a guarded secret, and kind of wild and wide-ranging beasts that they were. Dragonkind itself seemed disinterested in creating ties with anyone else.
Sure the world had peace, and any truly large-scale conflict was just about unheard of. And sure some saw signs, as the weather started to turn to wetter and colder. Just that none of those expected anything like the Long Cold. Years and years when there really wasn't much of a summer. Crops failing, then animals and plants in general not growing like they should, or seeming to near vanish from large areas. Starvation and disease took its toll as well, and countless deaths along with all the rest. That lead to civilization crumbling, people scrambling to survive as best they could.
And now, when the world seems to become a warmer place once again, proper seasons returning. To humans and others, it's a much more primitive place than what it once was. Some though, are also starting to look towards the future. Pondering how to maybe rebuild some scraps of civilization, and more than likely to shape it in the image they want. In particular those remains of once powerful groups, or just some individuals who see a chance to grasp for power. Searching out anything that may give them an advantage, whether it's rediscovering old knowledge or something new.
However, of those, ones who currently keep the order of the Dragon Knights alive...they might soon have an advantage. As with the warmer weather and prey animals, dragons are returning, with whom the order is very much interested in reestablishing old ties with. Already they might have drawn several male dragons in to fight alongside them, and rumors say that expeditions to seek out female dragons who once were with the order before the Long Cold.
From now, who knows what the world will become?
We have plenty of room for world building, if that's what you think is fun. And we're also looking for moderators.
