Kuriel
Name:Kuriel
Age: 22
Gender:
Prisoner: Yes
Crime: Dust Possession
Craft/Rank: Journeyman Beastcrafter/Candidate
Appearance: Kuriel is pretty, in a haunting waif sort of way. The first thing you notice about her is she needs a good meal. She is thin, often to distracted to eat properly. Years of being more worried about her next fix than her next meal have left their mark. She stands 5’4”, during those rare times she stands upright. Kuriel carries herself quietly, hunching her shoulders and keeping her eyes downcast. Her skin holds the promise of a golden tan beneath the unhealthy pallor. Scars crisscross her skin, new laying over old.
Kuriel’s dirty blond hair frames a thin face. It falls just above her shoulders, dry and broken it has a tendency to hang limply. She rarely does more than brush it out of her eyes. The only life in her emotionless face is the eerily pale gray of her eyes. A scar mars her right cheek a gift from a dealer who felt she stepped out of line. She doesn't care for her appearance beyond the hygene forced upon her by her situation. She spent many years living in dust induced squalor, and is not disturbed by filth.
Personality: Emotionless. Kuriel does not feel guilt, she doesn’t feel regret, she doesn’t feel empathy. Kuriel doesn’t feel much of anything. Kuriel was not made, as some monsters are, she was born this way. Broken from the moment she entered the world. She lives life in emotional shades of grey, unable to experience the color that others feel. Kuriel understands emotions better than most people, even if she can not feel them herself. She has spent her life watching and learning. From outside she looked in, and she has become adept at mimicking the outward signs of a multitude of emotions. She knows how she is expected to react in most situations, and when she cares enough to put forth the effort she does a remarkable job of convincing those around her she is normal.
Kuriel-who-cares is a nice enough girl. She follows orders and doesn't mouth off too much. She tries for a nice balance of well behaved rebel. Enough of one to keep the guards off her back, and a taste of the other to keep her from being labeled a pet prisoner. Every move she makes is calculated. Every word weighed to determine how it will benefit her. She applies her own brand of logic to every action, and looks down on people who let themselves be ruled by their emotions.
Kuriel-who-doesn't-care is ice cold. When she takes off the mask and let's the real Kuriel peak out she can be frightening. She is ruthless, and hard hearted. While she doesn't take pleasure in cruelty, the suffering of others doesn't have any impact on her. This Kuriel always rules her actions, but rarely comes to the surface. Usually the girl has enough control to keep the mask in place. Bring dust into the mix and the control shatters.
History: Born into any other family and Kuriel would have lived a short live that ended in an execution. She has all the makings of a psychopath. But she was born the seconddaughter of a beast crafter and his healing wife. Kuriel was watching her father slaughter and butcher animals all her life, and helping out as soon as she learned to walk. Death was a constant part of her life, both in the farm yard helping her father and in the infirmary helping her mother. Kuriel lost her fascination with it before it every really had a chance to blossom. Death was common, it was plain. Life ended and that was it. It wasn't dying or killing that she became obsessed with, it was living.
Kuriel was still a child when she realized she was different. She quickly picked up on the social norms, learned what she was supposed to say and how she was supposed to act. What she couldn't understand was why. The why of life eluded her. Kuriel was certain if she could just feel things the way others did she could understand all the whys. She tried a number of things, kissing a boy, impressing a firelizard, even resorting to cutting her own skin. Nothing stirred anything deep inside her. Not until she found Dust. When she was high the world exploded. She could feel the ups and down that made everyone else human. Addiction was instant, both physically and psychologically. Kuriel needed Dust to live.
Dust tore her life apart. She quickly abandoned everything to the drug. Her family and training were abandoned in faver of dealers and drug dens. The firelizard she had impressed left her when she neglected it. Her precious logic was thrown to the wind and Dust was all she cared about. She once watched two "friends" knife each other over a disagreement. Kuriel examined their wounds, and calmly informed them they were both going to die. She then stole the stash they had been fighting over and left them to rot.
Kuriel's addiction made her careless, and it wasn't long before she was caught, tried and convicted. She'd been using for a little less than a turn when she found herself at Warden Weyr. The first few weeks are a detoxing blur. After that she managed to fit herself into the society nicely. Convincing most people that she was a nice girl who fell in with a bad crowd. Kuriel may be physically clean, but mentally she still craves the color that dust added to her life. Kuriel sees the upcoming hatching as a chance for her to break free from this prison life. She will do anything for another high.
Name: Djith
Color: Yellow
Fairy Tale: The Little Mermaid
Hex Code: FFFF33
DescSomewhere between a Pink and a Bronze, Djith is an impressive girl shaped much like a certain dominant gold Wher. She is thick, muscular and large even for her color. Her neck is long and elegant despite her size, narrow faced and wings as strong as the rest of her. During flights, Djith will be an absolute pain in the butt to catch - not the most agile, but her stamina is killer.
Personality
When it comes to finding loopholes or makng vague promises for explicit prices, Djith is the true Queen. She can (and will) use those ten mark words to spin heads, twist others thoughts in order to make them realize just how right she truly is. Djith is not above using the same tactic on Hers, attempt to make the human believe just how she can help them reach their goals while using it all to her advantage.
That isn't to say the yellow dragon isn't capable of love - quite the opposite. She has quite the soft spot for Hers and any sort of henchmen she can pick up. When a person starts to do Djith's dirty work, they begin to get on the yellows good side - Djith firmly believes that's where you want to be in life, otherwise she will be making life very, very difficult for the person who has irritated her. If Hers listens like a good little bondmate, they'll get along quiet well.
Djith does not want to rule the world - she doesn't even want to be that strong woman behind the person in charge! What Djith desires is to control the inner workings of the people in the Weyr, to make sure she gets what she wanted, to give Hers a chance to get what they want.
She has her limits. If dealt an emotional blow, Djith will lash out with extreme anger and if the hurt is deep enough (a henchmans death, for example), the large Yellow may even lose her head and expansive temper, involving possible violence towards other dragons or any nearby buildings. When that infinite patience has been shoved over the edge, Djith's anger is a dangerous, hell-fire, and destructive force. It is unlikely even Hers would be able to calm Djith if pressed that far.
On the outside, Djith is a mothering creature, albeit one that rules her little clutch with an iron fist. She wants to take care of everyone, didn't you know? She goes out of her way to coddle those in need of attention, soothe the thoughts of a creature who had a bad day. There is no better way to build up loyal, moldable crowds then to make them indebted to you. Unlike Caninth, Djith's ruthless sense of manipulation isn't easily seen from the surface - who would suspect a kind dragon?
Why Me? Djith wants someone who can be controlled with gentle words and almost-promises, a near broken creature with little issues over treating others like mere pawns. Kuriel, bless her black heart, fits this to a 'T'. Djith is well aware of Kuriel's Dust craving, oh yes, and is not above manipulating her with the possibility of a Dust.
Kuriel gets a hope to get out. Her Djith is no wilting violet, rather a strong willed dragon who will help Kuriel get her position into a place where the human may actually feel as if she could get Dust. Both feel no guilt, although Djith may be able to teach Kuriel the importance of hench-persons and partners alike.
