Ma'ric
Name: Ma'ric
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Prisoner: No
Crime: Ma'ric is a GOOD boy.
Craft/Rank: Apprentice healer - brownrider
Appearance: Ma'ric is a lovely young man, that's for sure. His features are refined and... fairly effeminate. He is slim for his height of 5'10, with a body that's made for sprinting and running and not for heavy lifting, much to his fathers disappointment. Maveric is obviously not made for fighting and is in fact fairly weak- which is why he gets his ass kicked so often in fist fights. Unfortunately for others he's had training in healing and he knows how to use a knife thanks to Flo'ren's teaching... so he can in fact put down a rebellion easily enough. Just don't expect to get out of it with your life.
His hair is down to his shoulders and a pale blond in color, and he makes sure it always looks it's best. It tends to frizz when the south is at it's most humid, so some days he wears it pulled back into a pony tail. His thin frame does have scars, but he takes special care to hide them. Since becoming a rider he hasn't had much time to focus on himself, after all. He might as well cover his scars if he can't do anything else to make himself pretty.
Personality: Let's get one thing straight, Ma'ric is not the brightest bulb in the tool shed. He may actually be less intelligent then a firelizard, and his lack of intelligence tends to make him come off as innocent despite his occasionally perverted jokes. Jokes of the perverted nature or ones that mock him tend to soar right over his head, only for him to get them nearly hours later. Sarcasm tends to be taken as compliments... which is bad, since his ego is inflated anyway. Unfortunately, because he's quite oblivious, he tends to act a bit... well. Like the exact opposite of what he claims to be, especially when Flo'ren is involved. Or when he meets an attractive man and continuously comments on him. He has the unfortunate tendency to draw out jokes for far too long, making him a nuisance. He also has the unfortunate tendency to trust people he shouldn't trust at all.
He's extremely vain, and since coming to the south he tends to spend every opportunity he can tanning and making sure he looks his best. Which is why he tends towards revealing clothes. He wold rather die then give up his good looks, and the mere suggestion he can't tan will earn someone a wide eyed stare. His good looks are brought up every time he talks to someone, because Ma'ric likes explaining just how he got so pretty. Genetics.
He likes to fancy himself evil. He isn't, really, but don't try to tell him that. He's actually more likely to side with justice or the 'right thing', but he really likes the idea of being evil. He often makes evil plots that are ineffectual and harmless...and occasionally even -helpful- to the one he's trying to hurt. Evil plans like stealing Flo'ren's hair brush, rearranging someones sock drawer, or shoving people in a river. Not really nice, but not exactly evil. He can't even get those right. The childish man is just... well... childish.
Mostly he relied on his obedient brother back in the hold, but now that Veveric and he are separated, Ma'ric tends to follow his squadmates around like a lost puppy. He isn't quite sure what to do with himself when not under orders, so he makes himself as much of a nuisance as possible.
Despite his lack of intelligence, he is skilled at healing. He has a surprisingly good memory and he's gentle enough with the injured that he's managed to skim by on memory. Despite the fact he makes for an adequate healer it's woefully obvious he was only accepted because his father was a lord holder. When he's actually healing he seems to recognize lives depend on him, and he becomes serious. He likewise becomes serious when guarding, though he's prone to 'blonde moments'.
He, however, is not a nice man when you anger him. If you endanger his squad he WILL kill you unless specifically told not to. This is where his memory and healer training comes in handy of course. He's fairly clingy and affectionate towards his squad mates, much as they probably wish he'd bugger off.
History: Maveric was born the extra son of a lord holder, particularly the one in charge of Benden. Maveric had a twin brother by the name of Veveric, and by the time the pair had turned ten his father had decided that he wanted Veveric, who was much more intelligent then his twin, to be heir. Thus, Maveric was shipped off the healer hall. The healers were at first dubious about the lack of intelligence the boy showed, but when he showed to have exceptional memory for anatomy and medicines they decided to keep him.
However, memory wasn't enough to advance him any higher then junior apprentice, much to his chagrin. He remained as a mere assistant and taking classes with boys much younger then him until he hit seventeen turns, when on a routine sweep a blue dragon took notice of him. Before Maveric was quite sure what was going on, he was being searched to the Weyr. Once again, the riders were unsure of his intelligence and considered sending him back. His healer training convinced them to allow him to stay and Stand.
The hunch to let him stay had in turn been a good one. He impressed to (color) (name) at his first hatching, and somehow managed to pass weyrling training with flying colors. It was during weyrling training he met a slightly older rider by the name of Flo'ren, who had a few dubious habits and a bit of a stealing streak. Ma'ric was taken with him, and the pair quickly became friend despite how stormy their relationship was. Rumors spread quickly about them, but both put them down quickly. Ma'ric was unwilling to admit feelings for another man, as his father had been the traditional sort and had asserted that homosexuality was unnatural and impeded in the oh so important process of building families. Flo'ren quickly decided his friend was pathetic for a rider, and decided to supplement the fighting lessons Ma'ric had already received in weyrlinghood with knife fighting lessons. He taught him to hit where it hurts.
One night, repressed lust exploded. A gold had risen, and Flo'ren's dragon had lost the chase. Likewise under the thrall of the gold, but having not be involved with the Flight directly, Ma'ric was perfectly happy to 'help' his friend... especially since he'd earlier been drinking and was feeling quite a bit fuzzy in the head. The next morning Ma'ric was horrified and escaped as quickly as possible (after a bit of swearing and yelling at Flo'ren for good measure). He spent the next few sevendays avoiding his friend as much as he could. After all, he was from a traditional holdborn family. It was bad enough having to deal with normal flights without sleeping with his friend...
Thus, when his squad was transferred to Warden's he was more then excited. He was estatic to escape the awkward situation that had once been his relationship with Flo'ren. Even if it has landed him at Warden's, he asserts that it's perfectly fine. The prisoners might be scary, but he has a knife and a big dragon. Sure, the dragon can't hurt people... but still!

Pets

Name: Steve
Species: Firelizard
Color: Green
Appearance: SHE HAS NOOO WIIINGS. She's fairly average for a green aside from that, but she's Ma'ric's baby. She has a pretty little blue ribbon tied around her neck, which has Steve scribbled on it.
Personality: Protective - Evil (!?) - Vain - Clingy - Hates everyone except Ma'ric.
Scizyath
Name: Scizyath (pron. SIZ-yath)
Color: Brown
Appearance:
When he was first hatched, if greys had existed, Scizyath might have been mistaken for one. As he's grown up, he's gained both size and some saturation to his overall color... but not all that much. Even now, he'd be more accurately described as 'taupe' than 'brown', and his size is profoundly average. Average length, average wingspan, average weight… Yet for once, that descriptor is not an insult. Browns are considered the versatile middleweights of dragonkind for good reason. And while Scizyath will never be either the fastest nor the strongest in his squad, he will perform reliably at whatever task his rider (or his squadleader) set him to.
Matching his rider in one respect, Scizyath is undeniably a very handsome dragon. Deep chest, trim waist, an elegantly long neck and dark kohl-like markings around the eyes that give him a serious, almost brooding expression… Oh, he’s a charmer, all right. Scizyath’s markings are exotic and distinctive: a few faint dark stripes line the back of his neck and tail, with irregular high-contrast striping along his legs. His wingsails are very light beige, but with very dark brown just along the far edge, making him look dashing in flight. If there is a fault in Scizyath’s conformation, it is that his forelegs are oddly short. It doesn’t hinder him in flight at all, nor does it detract from his appearance… But it does make his gait on the ground into a curious hopskip more than a proper run.
Personality: Scizyath regrets every day that his neck is too long and his forelegs too short to perform a proper facepalm. He tries anyway, but it just doesn’t have the same impact.
Scizyath is the obvious brains of the team. The brown is quite astoundingly clever. While he is still limited by, well, being a dragon – that doesn’t stop him from being witty and perceptive. His jokes tend to be of the dryly clever variety (if Pern had a Britain, Scizyath would be quite British) and if they sometimes go over his rider’s head, he doesn’t seem to care. The brown is a pretty good problem solver too, with a particular knack for breaking down a problem to its simplest components. Even his memory is a little better than average, and he’ll have no trouble recalling events in the recent past.
Unfortunately, this means that he will notice everything that his rider would otherwise be cheerfully oblivious to – and he will use his above average memory to hold grudges as long as possible against anyone who slights his rider. Scizyath honestly believes Ma’ric to be the best rider in Warden’s (doubtless this will only inflate Ma’ric’s ego further) and while he’ll be the first to tell his rider when he’s about to do something stupid, he’ll never be mean about it. Indeed, the brown is not above small acts of vengeance against anyone who tries to mock or take advantage of his human.
On his own, Scizyath tends to be fairly gloomy, and relies pretty heavily on Ma’ric’s blithe obliviousness and affection to keep him upbeat. He’s not high-strung or neurotic… Just bordering on misanthropic when it comes to people who aren’t Ma’ric and Ma’ric’s immediate circle of friends. The brown only very rarely speaks to humans who aren’t his rider. He’ll be the one constantly warning His about how suspicious that prisoner looks, or grumbling that the unreasonably strenuous Warden’s schedule is making his Ma’ric lose sleep. Still, it’s hard to keep that dark outlook when you’re sunning on a beach, and Scizyath is easy to cheer up more often than not.
There is one thing that can make this clever, brooding brown make an idiot of himself, and that’s females. Want to see a dragon make the derp face? Put him by the beach with half a dozen greens. Scizyath isn’t even sure he likes females at all. With an intensely close bond to his rider, he’s just not particularly interested in anyone that Ma’ric isn’t interested in. Frankly, if he could have chased Flo’ren’s dragon, he would have. Alas, dragon biology doesn’t seem to work that way.
Why me? Oh Ma’ric, Ma’ric, shells, Ma’ric! What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Scizyath realized immediately that someone needed to look after this particular healer to make sure he didn’t get himself into too much trouble. His rider’s occasional acts of “evil” mischief will get little more than a sigh and an indulgent eyeroll, but Scizyath will step in if Ma’ric is about to put himself in danger, or place a little too much trust in someone he really shouldn’t… like, say, one of the murderers at Warden’s. And while Ma’ric may occasionally give his dragon migraines, he still keeps Scizyath from turning into a bundle of pessimism.
HIS HISTORY IS REALLY BAD AND I DON'T CARE BUT I'LL FIX IT IF THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT.
