H'lak
Name: H'lak, formerly Halak
Age: 29
Gender: male
Prisoner: No
Craft/Rank: Dragonrider, squad member, miscreant, holds the rank of level three apprentice in smithcraft.
Appearance: H'lak is tall, standing at about 6'4" and he is built like a brick wall. This, combined with his quiet nature makes him look intimidating, for those who do not know him. Since he was a smith, during his teenage years, he has developed strong muscles in his arms and back, which adds to his bulk. His strong physique makes him a good guard, not because he uses force, but more because the unsaid threat that he could use force is implied by his hulking, glaring presence. He has short, messy black hair, dark eyes, and occasionally the hint of a beard when he is feeling lazy.
H'lak is rarely seen without a cup of klah in his hand. He likes lurking in corners and looming over people. He takes great pride in being taller than most and therefore tries to stand tall, with very good, straight posture. He likes showing off his muscles whenever he can, meaning he often trains shirtless. If he is not shirtless, he usually wears dark black, grey and brown tones to look more intimidating. He continues to train hard to keep in shape, doing various exercises for at least an hour a day. He still keeps up with his craft, sometimes, since it is not only useful to the Weyr, but also helps keep his upper body in shape.
Personality: H'lak is a quiet person, although he enjoys the company of others and is rarely found alone. Has a very dry sense of humour, when he does talk, especially with his friends. One thing he very much enjoys and finds very amusing is startling people by being very quiet for long periods then suddenly commenting when people least expect it. He takes pride in being able to make himself be forgotten in a crowd, despite his size, then tries to use the element of surprise to startle people. His humour can be rather cruel, sometimes, since he enjoys startled, almost frightened reactions, but he does not mean any harm by it. Despite his intimidating appearance, he does not want to hurt people and would prefer using his bulk to protect people than to harm them. This was one of the reasons he originally accepted to Stand as a Candidate, because he wanted to be able to serve and protect.
H'lak does not have very many friends but the ones he does have he regards as family. He would do almost anything for them. He loves his work and does always make an attempt to socialise. He enjoys teamwork more than solitary work.
He is a self-admitted klah addict and can get very tetchy when deprived. This makes him slightly sympathetic to Dust users who are experiencing withdrawal. It doesn't mean that he will go easy on them, but it does mean that he does not taunt, torment or harass them in any way. He has been known to occasionally work in the detox center, since his strength is an asset for lifting near comatose patients or restraining those who get violent or hysterical. He has also been spotted once or twice sitting next to a younger patient's bedside, holding their hand and talking gently to them to try and calm them down. But he would never admit to this. It would make him look unintimidating.
History: Halak was born to Lakkin, a master smith, and Hallane, a journeywoman healer who mainly stopped practicing her craft to raise her large brood. Her very large brood. Halak is the third of eight children. This is probably where he first developed his preference for the company tof others over solitude. His family lived in a small house and the children had to share rooms, but they were a close-knit family and Halak actually preferred the close quarters where there was always someone around. Of course, he also learned how to create his own privacy by losing himself in his thoughts while at work or just sitting in a corner. It was a necessary skill.
As soon as he was old enough, he started helping his father around the smithy. He started his apprenticeship young and loved working metal. He never thought that he would do anything but follow in his father's footsteps and become a master smith. This changed, however, when he was 16 and a rider from the watch who was on patrol in the area and who stopped at the smithy to buy something declared that he was good Candidate material. Despite the fact that becoming a rider was an appealing idea, he had to think long and hard before accepting. It was hard for him to leave his family and he still writes and visits often. The temptation to be able to serve Pern was too great, though, and he decided to go to the local Weyr in the hopes of Standing at the next clutch.
He spent two Turns at that Weyr before Impressing at the age of 18. He trained very hard and joined the watch as soon as he could. When the chance came to transfer to Warden, he jumped at it. After all, Warden is the place where he can be most useful. It has nothing to do with an irate holder and a woman's honour. Nothing. Whatsoever.
He has two children that he knows of: a daughter, Haina, who is six, and an infant son named Lakim who totally is not the reason H'lak is at Warden. Haina is the product of flight lust, mostly, although H'lak did maintain some form of relationship with her mother for a while. By mutual agreement, he is not really a part of her life though she is aware that he is her father, and she was raised in the Weyr's crèche. H'lak has promised her, though, that he will come back and see her Stand, if ever she becomes a candidate, and he sends her gifts from time to time, mainly by convincing Aebischer to play courrier.
Lakim is a different kettle of fish. H'lak, on his patrols, often stopped by a particular hold. The lord holder's daughter was the easily impressed sort and a tryst developped. It isn't one the brownrider took very seriously, in the sense that with true dragonrider mores, he did not believe that a relationship needed to be binding forever with one single person. However her father decided that it was rather serious when the girl fell pregnant. H'lak was used to the idea that children of riders were mostly raised in the crèche, was not about to abandon his duties to play house, despite the way the lord Holder was insisting that he and Drydenth move to the Hold to "do his duty". After the disagreeable man began issuing threats, H'lak chose the simpler option of a transfer to Warden, informing the woman that she and the baby were welcome to follow him to the Weyr, but he would never impose a life cut off from other dragons to gregarious Drydenth. In any case, the transfer to Warden already seemed like a golden opportunity to be of real service to society. He has kept in touch with his son's mother, but has made it clear to her that he cannot be what her father wants him to be and she is free to pursue other prospects, even if that means she needs to send Lakim to him.
Tasted his first klah at 11. Has had at least a cup a day ever since.
Other stuff:
Pets
Name: Aebischer
Species: Flitt
Color: Blue
Appearance: Large and a little portly, sky blue with big navy blotches a bit all over as if he was beaten and bruised badly.
Personality: Sulky, sneaky, sullen, hissy, hates people. Likes Drydenth more than he likes H'lak, although he accepts his owner grudgingly, mainly since H'lak is the one who has control of the food. Aebs is 6 Turns old.
Name: Lavina
Species: Flitt
Color: Green
Appearance: Tiny, a delicate leaf green and wings that are slightly longer than average. She looks almost like a jade sculpture, when she sits still and poses.
Personality: Silly, not all that smart. Is highly impressed by manly men of any species. She tends to pick one male and obsess for a while, much like a lovestruck teenage girl. H'lak isn't quite sure how to deal with her, but she is mostly harmless. She feeds Drydenth's ego quite a bit, so he refrains from trying to curb her behaviour. Vina is 3 turns old.

Name: Drydenth
Color: Brown
Age: 11
Appearance: A beast of a brown at 39 feet, Drydenth has an impressive build. His body is broad and muscular without being stocky, the dragon having long, muscular limbs, as well as a neck that tapered off at the end just enough to give him a slightly elegant air, keeping him from appearing like a brute.
His base is a pleasant color, a light, chocolate brown. Outlines of a darker chocolate circle in patterns, each of the small crevices these patterns made different shades of brown, mock the pattern of Paisley. It’s a bit of a feminine look over his slightly dappled base, but, the broad figure helps minimize that.
Personality: Drydenth is fanatic about his masculinity, thanks to the pattern that covers his hide. Indeed, the Brown goes out of his way to prove his strength, liking to have people fawn over him. Thanks to this, he’s absolutely obsessed with being the center of attention. It makes him feel important, and, it’s likely that this makes H’lak a bit uncomfortable. It’ll be hard for his rider to slink around secretly with him constantly crowing loudly.
However, that doesn’t stop him from wanting to be as silent and covert as his rider; he’s just very poor at it. It’s a bit hilarious to watch him wander around behind his clever, silent rider, crouched down behind a tree he couldn’t possibly fit behind.
The humor of this isn’t lost on him; in comparison to His, he’s got quite the sense of humor, and is willing to make himself the butt of a joke. For this reason, Drydenth is a likable dragon, constantly shoving himself in to social circles and being relatively accepted. He appears to be a confident, strong male.
However, he’s more than a bit paranoid, constantly worried that, if his aura of manliness fades, he’ll be harassed, insulted, and his rider will abandon him. These worries can be soothed easily, however, and friends, of which he’s often quite eager to make, will find it simply a minor inconvenience.
Why me? H’lak is a strong, proud man, and, through this, Drydenth immediately connected with him. As well, the other man’s confidence will swiftly help the Brown get over his paranoia that he’ll be frowned down upon. Drydenth’s good humor and willingness to make friends will also gradually pull out the more sensitive side of his rider, hopefully, and make H’lak friends he wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.
