ARIADNE
age; 24
gender; Female
Prisoner; No
rank; Rider
playby; Heather Morris
[/ul]appearance;
Ari is is a beauty, Tall and slender, her thin form has the curves in all the right places to drive men wild. Her hair is the same pale blond that runs in her family. It’s set off nicely by the baby blue eyes. Her face is just a touch long, but not so long as to look like a runner. She works hard to keep her tall frame toned and muscular. More because her work is hard than any actual attempts to stay fit. She’s 5’10” and nothing but legs. She prefers to wear her hair back in a runner’s tail to keep it out of her face. Ari is careful about what she wears, choosing clothing that flatters her form and coloration. She keeps up to date on style changes and does her best to fit in, mostly because she thinks it's her job to fit in.
personality;
Bright, quick witted, intelligent, these are all words that will never be used to describe Ariadne. She is slow, real slow. Not to the point of needed someone to care for her, but she’s lucky she can read and write. Ari has a difficult time learning new ideas, or mastering new skills. She struggles to grasp even simple concepts and Faranth forbid you use big words around her. She’s as gullible as they come, and is easily influenced by more dominant personalities.
She’s also a sweet girl, and has all the depth of a mud puddle. She doesn’t lie well at all, and usually can’t figure out when she even should lie, unless someone tells her to. She is painfully honest, though not with cruel intentions, she just doesn’t quite get that the truth can hurt. It’s hard to hurt her feelings, especially when you have to take the time to explain any insults. She hasn’t got a mean bone in her body, though with the wrong influences that could change.
To say that Ari is a born follower is an understatement. She is uncomfortable without leadership, and always defers to whoever seems to know what they are doing. She's happiest when someone else gets to do the thinking, and always does her best to fulfill her orders. Well if she understands them. Unfortunately she's also a supremely trusting soul. She believes just about everything people tell her. Sometimes cruel riders have used this to their amusement. She may be oblivious but she does catch on when she's being picked on, and it hurts.

Ariadne was born at Ugenil Hold, her father having given up his title to follow a life more suited to him. The 5th child in a family of 7 Ari was always a bit neglected. That’s not to say she was abused or starved, she wasn’t, but her star never shown as brightly as her siblings did. Ari’s parents were always a bit disappointed in Ari, and the feeling tainted Ari’s childhood. Where her sibling’s excelled she struggled to learn how to write her own name. When they were rattling off the learning songs by heart she was just humming along. Ari’s parents didn’t have the time to focus on helping her improve, so they patted her on the head and told her she was a good girl. Certain they could find her a nice husband and settle her down in a comfortable life as a minor holder’s wife. Ari never really excelled at any craft, though she has a pretty enough singing voice.
Lucky for her she had been gifted with a pretty face. Young men courted her for both her looks and her birth, and Ari soaked up the attention they lavished on her. Attention she rarely got from her own family. Her parents were content to arrange a suitable marriage for the girl when she was 16 turns. A holder’s son, not much older than Ari, was chosen to be her future husband. It was a good match and one that would leave her well off. Ari isn’t quick, but even she could feel the relief in her parents when engagement was formalized. It stuck with Ari, this uncomfortable feeling that her parents were setting, that she was settling, for something less than what they would have expected from the rest of their children.
On her 17th Birthingday a searchrider came to the hold. Ari was supposed to be wed in the spring, but when the pretty green dragon suggested that Ari had that something special that dragonette’s looked for Ari lept at the chance. The searchrider and his green took his time with the girl, explaining everything slowly, avoiding the inpatients and frustration that others displayed when trying to teach Ari anything. He was accustomed to dealing with his green, who was also a touch slow. Ari liked being treated as an equal, she found in the rider something that was missing in her home life. Respect. She understood that at the Weyr, as a rider, she had a chance to be something more than someone’s daughter, or sister, or wife. She could be her own person. Ari craves the chance to prove to her family that she can stand on her own feet, without someone to care for her.
Ari impressed (Insert Dragon name here) when she was 21. She was help back in Weyrling training for nearly twice the length of time required. After finally graduating she was transferred from wing to wing as everyone tried to pawn her off on someone else. She finally found herself transferred a final time and on her way to serve as a guard at Wardens. They figure she can't mess up sounding an alarm too badly, but Ari will find a way.

Name: Lihuath
Color: Green (D1E231)
Appearance:Lihuath floats through the air like a leaf on the breeze. She’s a beautiful color, with a delicately curved but short neck and a long, permanently kinked tail sticking out of two different ends of her extra-long torso. Not that she lets such discrepancies of the norm stop her from being striking in appearance at her 27 feet in length. Through some quirk of nature, her hindquarters (muscle wise) look to belong to a brown, full and bulky and making her look almost squat, if her front half weren’t the delicate thinness of a fairy’s limbs. Everything combined makes her look straight unusual.
Memorable, but unusual. Still, the muscles of her hindquarters do help her, no matter how they affect her look, allowing her to shove off with the power of one much more than her size, often surprising many when they watch her take off from the ground; she can easily gain the height of a bronze climbing into the air with one shove and a sweep of her large wings, compared to the two or three wing-beats another green might need. They look like leaves, her wings, like looking up from the ground at the canopy of a tree, large and branching, all her veins visible through the thin skin, light in color like the veining of a true leaf, despite the darkness ichor should give them. This veining extends from her wings to her trunk, wrapping her body and marking out the ichor as it spreads across the surface of her skin in thin and thick vessels, fading off on her limbs to let the pure color of her form show forth.
Voice – Kristine Sutherland
Personality:
loving, strong, cynical, sarcastic, wise
“A mother’s work is never done,” could be applied to Lihuath. She’s always been the motherly sort, ever since fresh out of the shell. The green doesn’t wish for children, she has her own perfect child in Ariandne. She loves her Ari with all her heart, like any dragon will their rider.
She loves others too, Lihuath is more than happy to have a group of people and dragons to fuss over, those who want or need someone to care for them, her heart’s big enough for that. She’d bake them cookies and make waffles if she could, but she doesn’t have opposable thumbs, and isn’t going to trust Ari, no matter how much she loves her rider, to cook without hurting herself. She’ll remember all the names Ari forgets, and give her rider all the time she needs to learn new things, always with a patient, That’s alright, Arilove, when something goes wrong. This isn’t to say that Lihuath is a complete pushover; she just isn’t one with a short fuse. Her fuse is long, though be wary when it explodes, especially if the explosion is caused because someone upset Ari or hurt her. Then the words “duck and cover” come to mind.
It’s not that Lihuath would swear up a storm, or threaten to stomp the one who had made her mad. No, just that the one who did the deed would suddenly feel about two inches tall, as Lihuath systematically cut them down verbally, digging deep into the insecurities she has picked up from them. She’s always watching, keeping an eye on Ariadne, so it’s easy enough for her to notice what things make others uncomfortable, and use them to her advantage. An explosion of such magnitude is rare, despite the sarcasm that Lihuath wields with a masterful blade in regular conversation. Never to Hers, for fear of being thought serious, but to others who will understand, Lihuath will be as sarcastic as she pleases, returning barbs meant to hurt with quips that injure the other party right back, or the more gentle teases with the same level of sarcastic wit.
Many look at Lihuath with pity, because of her rider. The green won’t stand for that, for all that her rider might be considered “slow” or “simple” by humans, she’s perfect for Lihuath, no matter what others may think. Lihuath would do anything to defend Ari, perhaps not kill a human, but she isn’t above asking a friendly firelizard to put trundlebugs in their beds or something, to show her displeasure with them. To Lihuath, her rider is a gem, a jewel, with her ability to always see the good in life, and so rarely see the bad. Lihuath adores how Ari always wants to help people, which is partly why she is so open to helping people herself, even if it wasn’t in her nature. She’d do so because doing so makes Hers happy.
The large green is wise in the ways of the world, more than just Flightlust and how that can affect her rider (though she tries her best not to Rise, when she does she assures that at least one of those chasing her completely respects Hers, and always aims to have that male Catch her, to ensure Hers is not hurt). She may not be “top-of-the-class” intelligent, but Lihuath knows many things, her wisdom is borne of experience, even if she hasn’t undergone the certain event or done the thing that Ari wants to know about – she’s either seen it, or knows who to ask to get information about it, to explain the answer in a way that Hers will understand. She knows the ins and outs of a lie, calling many riders (and dragons) out on them bluntly. For all she loves people, she doesn’t completely trust them. She can’t, for Ari’s sake. Too many might try to take advantage of HerAri’s tender heart, and she’s not about to allow her golden girl to get injured in any way, so despite how she cares for those who need it, she doesn’t trust them, not fully. Just because they haven’t hurt Hers yet doesn’t mean they won’t do so at a later date.
Why me? Lihuath works with Ari for various reasons. First off, she’s the wise mother/sister/teacher type who won’t mind when Ari needs extra time to do things or understand things, and won’t get mad when her rider gets things wrong, but she’s got the snark and sass that Ari needs combat those who don’t appreciate Ari for who she is.
Breakdown of everything – I thought Ari needed a caring protector type, and dice-rolls made that caring-protector a green. I immediately thought of Joyce Summers, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Completely human mother takes on a vampire with an axe to the head, protective and motherly. Wanted a “green” name, to go with the color. Lihua means “pear blossom” in Chinese, so Lihuath, with the coloring of a pear, who looks like a combination between a pear (when sitting on her hindquarters, like a dog begging) and a Chinese dragon. With the Chinese bit established, I also thought of Mulan, who protected all of China with intelligence and wit. So I combined Joyce Summers with Mulan to get Lihuath’s personality, sorta. Joyce Summers is voiced by Kristine Sutherland, hence Lihuath’s voice.
