It was Dinner time at Warden Weyr. Many folk had since crammed themselves into the mess hall to get into chow lines. More still were already eating, filling hungry bellies and improving peoples moods. Thus far the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. None of the prisoners were acting up and the non-prisoners were being as friendly as they could be. A few people were even trading food back and forth.
Milune was not one of those people. At least, she wasn't yet. Her dinner was different than the rest of the Weyrs. Why? Well, because she had caught it herself three hours before. A whopper of a striper was hooked on her line before she knew it. With some help from Glint she managed to land it, then high tailed it back to the Weyr. The lass hadn't even let Jora so much as look at the fish. No, that beauty was not going to get ruined by such inexperienced hands.
A cook she might not be, but the girl was Weyrbred. Having practically grown up in the kitchens of her Weyr she had watched, learning a couple of things in the process. She gut, descaled, deboned, then turned the meat into chunks. It was thrown into a pan with butter, garlic, and a dash of lemon to give it some kick. When it had turned flaky, then golden brown in the pan she'd taken it off the heat. Letting it sit in the butter Milune had then snagged a few fresh rolls.
Her fish was placed between at least four sliced rolls with plenty left over on the side. It was a huge meal, hearty and more than she would ever be able to eat. But the smell of it was thick and made her mouth water. Glint was almost drooling at that point, but she kept the Gold at bay until they got into the mess hall. The plate nearly over flowed and she did her best to keep from dropping anything.
When she sat down the healer gave one of the fish sandwiches to her 'lizard then started tucking in. Ravenously, she bit into one of her creations. Though not the most delicious thing in the world, it was still good by her standards. Shells, it was better then the slop they usually ate by a long stretch. In bliss, she continued to eat until the first fish roll was gone. And instead of going for another one she started polishing off some of the flaky white meat that wouldn't fit on the rolls.
Ah yes, she was in quite a good mood. In fact she was in such a good mood she didn't even notice some of the envious looks she was getting. Nope, her world was filled with yummy deliciousness and she didn't seem to be coming out of it any time soon.
