Gold Ranging from 40 to 45 feet in length, golds are the largest of the dragons. Often referred to as queens, golds are the only fertile dragon color. They reach maturity at two turns, and rise once a turn after that. Gold dragons have the ability to command other colors, and are obeyed instinctively. They can not, however, digest firestone. Gold dragons impress only to females. Though they vary greatly in temperament, they are known for their pride.

Bronze Ranging from 35 to 40 feet in length, bronze dragons are the powerhouses of the Weyr. They can maintain flight for long periods of time, though their maneuverability suffers as a result. Due to their large size, bronze dragons are the most likely to succeed in catching a gold during her mating flight. Dragonriders in positions of power are usually impressed to bronze dragons. They impress only to men. Bronze dragons are often ambitious.

Brown Brown dragons range in length from 30 to 35 feet. Like the proverbial 'jack of all trades, master of none' they are known not for excellence, but for versatility and above all, stability. Agile, but not so much so as blues or greens and capable of flying for long periods, but not so long as a bronze. They chase both greens and queens but are not the favorite in either type of flight. They impress to either gender, but seem to favor men.

Blue Blue dragons are the smallest of the male dragons and generally range between 25 and 30 feet. While they lack stamina they are known for their excellent agility. While a blue has no hope of catching a queen they have the advantage in green flights. It's rare for a bluerider to rise to a position of power, though they are often awarded other important roles such as Weyrlingmaster. Blues impress to either gender and favor neither. They are not known for any particular personality trait.

Green Green dragons are the smallest, ranging between 20-25 feet long. They are female, but infertile, and the most numerous color. In terms of agility, greens show up every other color, but they have very low stamina. They rise four times a turn, a fact that may have given rise to the stereotype of the 'flirtatious' green. Green riders are usual considered equal in rank to blue riders, and they are not often found in positions of importance. Greens impress to either gender, but seem to prefer women. Greens in general are thought to be inconsistent and unpredictable.
