Her eyebrows furrowed sympathetically, and Jessan nodded, slow. At least he said he'd try and that, if nothing else, brought a small curling smile back onto Jessans lips. She leaned back, shifting once more to watch her patient as he moved, began to appear more and more on edge with the conversation.
"I like you, Kaydian," said Jessan, as softly as she could while still being heard. And she meant it, at least at that very moment. Chances are, she wouldn't later, but for that brief flicker in time, Jessan knew she liked him. "Just because people in your past didn't appreciate you doesn't mean that there won't be plenty in the future who do. What is strange to one person is fascinating to the other. If the new people you meet don't like you, then they don't like you."
"But." She tapped her finger at the edge of the table, and smiled again for the boy, a wider and genuine thing. "Kaydian. I have faith you'll find your niche and your friends. You're that sort of boy." While Jessan's smile faded to the more sedate sort, her hands returned to the table, palms down and fingers flared out. "This may sound a bit cliche, Kaydian, but would you mind telling me a few things you like about yourself?"

Kaydian smiled shyly. He was happy that the mindhealer liked him. Maybe she could kind of be a friend. He liked talking to her, she was nice and relaxing and listened without judging... It felt nice to have someone who seemed to care, even just a bit.
He blinked at her question, taking some time to mull it over. "I... I don't know," he said finally. "I guess... I guess I like that I'm organised, even if people laugh at me. I like..." He paused, sitting back and thinking. "Maybe I'm loyal? I don't like leaving people and I want to help them a lot. I think that's a good thing." A distressed frown settled on his face as he tried to think of a third thing. "I... i don't know what else," he said, hoping that he wasn't disappointing Jessan too much.
