Honey had, lately, not been living up to her name. The usually shy and loving flit had been unusually grumpy and snappish for the past few days. Orren had determined easily that she wasn't hurt, and she wasn't sick, which meant only one thing: so close to the hatching of Semith and Iateth's clutches, his own little gold was getting proddy. Of course it would happen now.
Still, despite her mood, she insisted on being with him while he helped make the afternoon meal. Perhaps it was the heat of the kitchen that she enjoyed, or maybe it was just the familiarity. Either way she was there, hunched on his shoulder, more tense even than she'd been the past few days. Her wings would occasionally twitch, as though she was desperate to just unfurl them and fly already.
Oh come on, not here of all places...
Of course when a gold, even a little one, decided to rise, there was little one could do to stop it. She was off his shoulder and halfway out into the main mess hall before he even knew what was going on, creeling a call to any potential chasers who might happen to be in the area. Her eyes, usually so fixed in a shade of green or blue, were now the deep purple of flight lust and her overlarge wings beat the air impatiently. She couldn't have a flight if she didn't have chasers, after all. Where were they?
So, as many of you know, this flight has already been decided. Honey is going to wind up caught by F'ox's bronze Crypt. However, we figured that was no reason not to play it out -- it'll give us all something to do in-between waiting for new Outlaw Hatching posts, and give those of us that have exclusively Warden's characters something to do in the meantime! If your character doesn't have an eligible flit, it is therefore perfectly fine and even encouraged to NPC one or two.
Other than that, there are no rules -- except cause some mess. This is a Mess Hall, after all. It isn't a party until someone's klah gets knocked over by the huge swarm of flits going past.

NPC blue Chiller
A guard on patrol didn't even have time to see his blue flitter's eyes crash through the colors of lust before Chiller blinked between. The large blue, longer than some browns and sinfully muscular, was too stupid to care that people were eating down there as he reappeared in the mess hall. So what if they might not want to bear witness to a firelizard mating just now?! It was time!
Chiller was gonna try and get some and that's all he cared about. Oh, he was by no means the biggest male flit around, but he had sheer dumb luck going for him. (Any day he didn't somehow manage to fly headlong into a wall was proof of that.)
Icy pale blue with midnight tiger-streaks slithering across his hide, he wasn't so much handsome as he was imposing. Chiller let out a bloodcurdling shriek in response to Honey's call, glaring around to check for other males as he flung himself wantonly through the air at that enticing golden hide.

Desert had been clinging to Senar's head, nibbling on the strands of hair that were growing back faster than the rest. Senar only took token notice as he went between; the boy had long since given up on keeping the brown under control.
Desert reappeared in the cafeteria, right between two chatting prisoners. He chirruped cheerfully at Honey and the other flit, though he was clearly focused on staring at the lovely gold color of her hide. Still, he was trying his own type of charm with graceful sweeps and dips as he gave chase.

Red Briar was a brown, but in firelizard flights, anything was possible. T'ron wasn't looking after him. T'ron shouldn't really have been looking after him, as he was a 'grown 'lizard,' or whatever T'ron had said before. Red Briar, very loyal to His, wasn't usually one for flights, but this flight was different. It wasn't everyday that a gold firelizard rose in the Weyr. Or perhaps it was every day but it wasn't every day that Red was where the flight was.
T'ron was sitting there, eating a meat pie quietly by himself when the gold firelizard rose. He raised an eyebrow, his eyes tracing the gold's flight. But Rory and Bit didn't seem to mind the flight. Rory and Bit were about as stolid as a tree. It was Red who uttered a cry of defiance and swooped from his shoulder. T'ron rolled his shoulders into a shrug. Red could go chase. He needed it.

Oh my, he was late! Late to a very important date!
Crypt had been in the middle of a 'check up' with F'ox, which had consisted of the albino 'practicing' calming down flits during check ups... and then dressing up Crypt to reward him for being such a good boy.
That meaning, Crypt was wearing a tiny top hat that F'ox had somehow gotten a hold of (probably created from scraps, as it was quite a sorry example of a hat) and a pink bow, which was made out of a ragged scrap of cloth. But a little bit of effort had made Crypt very fetching indeed, and the bronze was strutting for F'ox when he realized that a gold was rising.
Without so much as a goodbye to F'ox, Crypt popped between... outfit and all. The bronze whirled in, and even winked to Honey in his usual... Cryptic way.
Oh yeah, ladies and gents. Crypt had arrived.

Honey ducked her head, turning to see that she already had something of a following -- two browns and a brown-sized blue. Well! Not a bad turnout for the first few minutes of a flight, not at all! And then a bronze appeared to top it all off and Honey trilled with glee. This was going to be a close fight for all of them and she was exci--
... Oh. What in the world was that bronze wearing? She nearly did a flip in midair from craning her head in an effort to comprehend it. He looked... ridiculous. Snorting with amusement, she righted herself, flicked her tail, and went into an abrupt steep climb. This was going to be a roller-coaster ride, to put it mildly! It was far too early to decide, and while she worked on making up her mind, she intended to test all four of them, and any others that appeared after the fact. Which would win -- the all-out charge of Chiller, Desert's graceful attempts to impress (and oh, he was doing a good job, she was quite flattered at the show he was putting on just for her), Red's simple need, Crypt's... hat?
She asked them as much, voice shrill but joyous. She had felt angry and tense earlier, but now that she was in the air, in the grips of an urge that she could not control, she felt oddly... free. Happy. This was how things were supposed to be, and she was going to have fun with it!

Pest popped out of between with an excited shriek (and blood on his claws, because it just wasn’t a Pest chase if he didn’t accidentally slash open Corvis’ scalp when he took off) and looked around for Honey. Oh, Honey, Pest is here and he’s totally the best flit to father your babies in the entire prison. Ignore the fact that he was named Pest for a reason and any babies he had would be made of hate and derp.
Then he saw Crypt and shrieked in indignant rage. He would not be one-upped by a bronze again! He flew after Honey as quickly as he could, with a determination that would be admirable if it weren't for the fact that he was trying to one-up a bronze.

NPC blue Chiller
Chiller vocalized again, a throaty whistle of appreciation at Honey's antics. Oh, he was so ready. The thrill of challenge, usually so lacking in his life, pumped through his veins as his icy wings drove him up, arrow-straight, after the gold. He wasn't trying to be seductive, and he was definitely not dressed for the occasion. All he had was pure unadulterated lust. But would it be enough?
Every fiber of his being wanted the answer to be yes.

Red is simple. Red is simple in his loyalty, he's simple in his determination, he's simple in everything. And right now he was simply in need of Honey. There was no need for anything more than simple lust. He was an okay color for his size, there was no doubt about that. But he was nothing compared to his brother up there in that strange little human head-device and that bow.
Frankly, Red hated Crypt. It wasn't a conscious belief, it was something he was born with. Crypt was his downfall and whenever the bronze was around, Red simply ceased to be happy. And now was... well, now was an exception, he guessed. Because of Honey's complete and utter hold over him, he didn't care about Crypt. Not now. Not yet. So, with a single-minded loyal focus, he swept after the gold, wanting to win the flight.

Another chaser! My my my, she really was attracting quite an entourage. Honey whistled a greeting to Pest, twirling at the top of her climb and turning to skirt along the ceiling. Pest was worried about being one-upped by a bronze? And, my, it seemed Red had a particular dislike for the larger flit as well. Well, they needn't have been too worried: Honey was of the mind that color was far less important than simple strength of genes.
Which is why she was still paying particular attention to Chiller. So large for his color, and so strongly built... he'd certainly father strong children, wouldn't he? Not to mention that he was currently in the lead, given his ramrod straight flight pattern. She wondered if she could break him of that. She'd have to try it, once the others really fell in. For now, she continued to dodge around the ceiling, paying no attention at all to the people down below watching her flight.
Of course they were watching. It was a spectacular game, after all! All the players in peak condition, each male a very qualified suitor. If a show was what they wanted, it was what they'd get, she'd make sure of it.

Crypt's brother was here! Crypt had no idea who that was, and he honestly didn't care much. Aside from his hatching, he hadn't socialized with any firelizards but Rage. Mostly because the green followed him around and scolded him constantly.
Crypt like Honey much more then Rage. Honey didn't scold or yell at him! Crypt crooned, his voice sweet. He liked Honey! He liked her so much that he'd share his bow with her! He'd even get F'ox to make her a totally new bow! Admittedly, F'ox was terrible at making bows.
Crypt was eager to follow after the lady, but he was much slower then the smaller flits. Instead, he whistled and chirped after Honey. He didn't want to crowd her, that'd be kind of rude. The Flight was the lady's choice, after all.

NPC blue Chiller
It was Honey's dodging around that left Chiller wanting. He wasn't as limber as others of his color, the muscles not quite as fluid as they could have been if there were fewer of them. So when he moved to make a tight turn and shave off an inch or so of the golden beauty's lead, his right wing shoulder suddenly cramped with the strain of holding a tight angle under pressure. He squawked in dismay, then whined from the pain as he struggled to bring the limb back to a normal position for a halting glide down to safety.
It didn't exactly work out that way.
He careened down like a one-winged avian, shrieking and flicking between moments before he would have impacted with a wall. Straight back to his guard, who luckily had good enough reflexes to catch the disappointed flitter before the big blue could drop all the way to the ground. Chiller was out of commission for now, but there would always be another day...

Red is simple. (I will seriously start all my rp posts with him like that) He did nothing out of the ordinary. It was as if he knew, deep down, that he wasn't going to win. Because he was so simple. He followed Honey simply. It was a game... one he would win in his mind but perhaps not in life. He chittered away at her, though, in his simple-mindedness. He liked chasing!
T'ron watched as Red Briar grew more and more enthralled with the flight. And Bit sat there on his lap; T'ron tore off some meat from his roll and fed it to the blue. Then he rehearsed knowledge about betweening in his brain. It was simple enough, really, but without actually asking riders... well, T'ron was at a loss.
Oh, this was much fun! Red skipped back and forth in the air, following Honey simply. He chirped lovingly at her, wondering if he'd win and knowing he wouldn't. But the loyal reddish-brown would not at all give up!

And just like that, the leading male was dethroned, blinking away between with a shriek. If Honey hadn't been so wrapped up in the flight, she might have been worried, but some primal instinct told her that he would be fine. He hadn't been meant to win. It was that simple.
She reviewed her choices. Crypt, Red, and Pest and Desert. It was so difficult to choose! So instead of making up her mind, she began a dive, intending to take them down closer to the ground, perhaps fly under and over tables. The browns were more compact and had quite a bit of power, naturally, and the blue's smaller size made it easy for him to speed ahead, but the bronze's endurance made up for his more cumbersome proportions. It was a fair flight -- any of them had the possibility of winning, so long as they held on and didn't cramp as Chiller had.
She chirped flirtatiously back at Red when he called out to her, making her intentions of playing with her suitors plain. She had the freedom to do that, here, in the air. The need to mate was strong, but not so much that she couldn't set it second fiddle to the simple exhilaration of flying. She nearly plowed straight into an off-duty guard, flicking her wings at the last moment and skirting around him even as he gave a surprised shout. Oh, this was fun. She felt sorry for the larger queens, who had to be so much more careful.

Red is simple. So when he saw Honey playing back with him, his heart skipped a few beats. Seriously, if he had been human, he might have died right then and there. But he was not human and even the few missing beats had not even swayed him from his path. He might as well have been re-energized because of his simpleminded need to catch Honey.
And yet he knew he wouldn't.
He dove with Honey. His simple-mindedness drove him onward. His loyalty to his current queen kept him humming and chittering after her, even if his muscles were beginning to hurt. They were practically killing him he was in pain; he'd never whipped himself around so much in his life (which was, of course, short), and he knew he'd go crawling faithfully back to T'ron when he was over with the flight. But right now he was diving after Honey, hoping he'd catch up to her just enough to catch her....
