For Jiruyno:
The Hero's Call Egg thrust itself int Jiruyno's mind, an abrasive, uncomfortable presence, simmering with hatred and disgust. And yes, it was disgusted with him, there was no missing that burning distaste. But there was something else too. Understanding? Appreciation? Hard to pin down. But yes, there was something there. And that something wasn't negative. The egg seemed to be reacting to Jiuyno more as a frustrating, wayward child than as an evil that needed to be killed.

The egg under his hand struck something in Machi. With that second egg, his hand twitched away from the shell, the tips of his fingers curled. Machi stepped away from his second egg, a frown flicking briefly over his lips. Oh, the man liked those feelings well enough when they were radiating from young men - those he could touch, and that would love him, but he did not want that in his head, all of the time. He did not want to feel what they felt.
Long story short: the egg freaked Machi out, just a little bit.
He went, instead, to Golden Starburst. May as well make a complete turn if one creeped him out, right? Go for something different (and away from Jiruyno.) Machi lay a hand down on that slightly shimmering shell, eyebrows knotted together in a frown, eyes intense on the egg. "Hello." he said.

For a moment, the healer's eyes widened. What...was this? His gut instinct was to draw away, but something kept his hand on the egg for a moment, and the startled look turned to one of mild interest, turned to a thoughtful frown. The dragonet inside, whatever it was, was disgusted with him? Well. That was...
"Ha. Ha, haha...." the laugh began quietly in Jiruyno's chest, bubbling up into a soft, genuine sound that rang out brief and loud in the quiet of the hatching grounds. He cut himself off abruptly, removing his hands from the shell and giving the egg the closest thing to a genuine smile he could manage. "You," he said softly, "you, I like." And then his lips twitched, and the near-smile disappeared, expression suddenly back to its carefully-schooled seriousness. Jiruyno had let his facade slip for just a moment, but he wasn't going to leave it askew like that.
Straightening up and running a hand through his hair with a soft breath, he turned away from the vicious egg and surveyed the remainder of the clutch. One of the eggs, in nondescript browns and attractive patterning, caught his attention in a way the others hadn't. There was something about it that seemed...twisted, peculiar. Askew in the same way Jiruyno was. And yet, there was clear order, clear intent to the patterning on his shell. What a peculiar creature it was. And he prowled close, hands dropping to brush the shell of the Fresh Perspective egg.

The warmth of the hot springs was welcome after the evening chill outside, even with the unpleasant odor. Alezri had stayed away from the poached eggs until his curiosity was a raving beast demanding satisfaction. Others were already circulating among the eggs, several of them the depraved variety that should have terrified him outright. It was more of a creeping tingle that worked up his spine as he noted their presence, something that worried him vaguely. He was pretty sure he knew what they saw him as - a weakling. Expendable. What sort of wimp stopped to smell flowers in the middle of a hunt, anyway?
This type of wimp, that's who. Well, being hardcore had landed a lot of these walking sinkholes of morality in Warden's in the first place. (Alezri chose to ignore the circumstances of his own arrival at the moment.) After his eyes made another quick sweep around, the dirty blonde pushed his now-faded sleeves back almost to the elbows and stepped forward, slowly but without any trace of hesitation.
Coincidentally, as he stepped up to the Call to Action egg he realized that Squall had abandoned him at some point in the last quarter candlemark. Briefly he was irritated, but it subsided as he remembered how tired the little bronze had been. Training wasn't going as well as it should have been- for either of them. Alezri brushed his fingers across a prominent line of black against the brilliant red of the shell before him, in silent greeting, and moved to one of the others without waiting for a response from it. He had no intention of getting the jitters from the egg's 'just do it' mentality right now. Or interrupting the other outlaws, either. All that time at Warden's and he was still wary of them, saw them as different from himself. The only real crime in his life had been the way Jayce pretended not to love him, pretended not to understand that Alezri was being merciful to stop the beating as he had.
Alezri knew better. Women had an unfair chance to counterfeit excitement undetected, unlike guys. His sweet lover had squirmed all the right ways as 'no' dribbled from his mouth. Such a pretty little liar. He was smiling slightly, thinking of his beautiful Jayce waiting for him somewhere up North, as his palm came into contact with the Lurking Stare Egg. Its false eyes didn't distract him from his inner visions, but that shine was impossible to ignore. "Well?" he murmured, blue eyes unblinking.

For Alezri:
The Lurking Stare Egg wastes no time with the first-meeting pleasentries when it comes to Alezri; the mind within the egg attacks. There is no 'must kill you' malice in it's intentions, but a forceful shove as the dragonet scours his mind, invading every part of him as surely as he did to Jayce. It disapproves, as it seems to for all, but it breaks the connection abruptly and without ceremony. You're dismissed.

The shock Alezri felt at being invaded was almost overwhelming. When the disapproval evaporated- and the connection right along with it- the young outlaw almost staggered. He wasn't sure, now, that he wanted to continue; was it all going to be like that? Most likely he would have chickened out if he'd been alone, because, impossibly, some tiny part of him had enjoyed it. Had he enjoyed it? No, no sharding way. He hadn't been ready for it. He hadn't wanted that sort of reaction. Raaaaape! (But you took it like a man, he told himself. Sort of.) All right, fine, he admitted he'd enjoyed it a little. There had been no feeling of hatred, after all, and Alezri was certain that if the dragon in that egg could have made him experience that, had it desired to do so.
His mind drew the inevitable link between what he'd just felt and what he'd done to Jayce, and he wondered, for the briefest moment, if the part of Jayce that had enjoyed their encounter had been as whisper-small. The thought was flung from his mind as he shook his head vigorously to dislodge it. Move along, he told himself, still a little skittish.
As it was, his blue eyes were screwed up as narrow as they could go as he took a step to the side, away from the rudeness of Lurking Stare and up to the River Blue Egg. He hoped that this egg, with its calmer appearance, wouldn't inundate him quite so fiercely. He couldn't count on it though, and made himself take a moment for nonchalant observance of the others to regain his composure before reaching a finger gingerly to touch the liquid-blue shell.

For Machi:
Oh, my! Such brutes they'd found to throw at it! The Golden Starburst Egg radiates razor edge amusement, but without a condescending edge. It actually seems kind of fond of Machi, much in the way he might be fond of a sharp knife. Fond, yes, but fond of a thing, not a person.
For Jiruyno:
What on Pern are you? The Fresh Perspective Egg is so puzzled by Jiru that its usual curiosity about everything else fizzles. Instead, it just buzzes about the edge of his mind, wondering. Is he a person? Two people? Something that only thinks it's a person? The egg isn't sure. But it seems happy in its confusion.

Such brutes, yes. Machi runs his hand almost fondly over the curving, shining shell. His eyes hood, lips curling the briefest into a maybe-not-quite smile. the creature inside the egg did not hate him, did not have that same mocking distaste, or did it shine like those - like Shai. His fingertips trailed over the shell one last time, gentle as a lovers touch, and Machi stepped away.
That's when Jiruyno laughed. Something in that chuckle sent a curl of distaste up the young mans spine, unease twisting up his veins. A sharp glance to the side gave him a split second view of a smile he just did not like. His second look, to the other side, he aimed at Arkady. Jessan told him not to hurt the other killer, and in these small quarters, he would rather put his presence in that man then that of a rapist or that healer. He'd feel obligated to protect the still-healing Arkady, in theory. The look he gave Arkady, whether Ark looked up or no, was something along the lines of 'fuck this shit, I'm with you'.
And, with that, Machi edged over to Arkady. He would chill out with him, thank you very much. He touched the Call To Action Egg once suitably close enough to Arkady (and far enough from Jiru).

What was this? Love at first touch, quite possibly. Jazz Hands was his kind of egg. No tricks, no intrusive head-invasion. Just a BAMF little dragon (Arkady agreed fully with its assessment) and a head full of comfort. Under different circumstances - if Arkady were healthy, for instance, and not observed by anyone, and if he had a safe place to stash it - he might well have run off with the little guy and kept it for himself. As it was, he wanted nothing more than to cuddle up with this fantastic little creature and relax. He couldn't resist curving his good arm around the shell and resting his forehead lightly against it in a kind of loose half-hug. You, little egg. You better hatch and Impress. If you don't, I'll miss you.
The happy moment didn't last long, though. Another outlaw arrived... and well, now, it was just the psychopath party now, wasn't it? They had three murderers and now the creepy-as-fuck rapist. You didn't end up in solitary at Warden's without learning a thing or two about the other sick fucks in there with you. And Arkady was quite aware that he did not want to be in this room anymore.
It wasn't a judging thing. He was well aware that he was a murderer, and probably just as much of a terrible person as the rest of them. His moral compass, inasmuch as he had one, pointed more in a shaky northwesterly direction, and sometimes spun aimlessly in no direction at all. It was just that Arkady was more or less defenseless at the moment, and while he could pretty much count on Machi not to kill him... There were now more unpredictable killers in the room than predictable ones.
He stood up, exchanged a brief look with Machi - the other man looked as un-thrilled by the situation as he was, although that was probably because Jiruyno had just laughed at one of the eggs. Oh Faranth what the fuck, Arkady was getting out of here. He inclined his head in the direction of the exit, silently indicating his intentions to Machi.
On the way out, though... Well. Curiosity killed the feline. And quite possibly the Harper, for that matter. He couldn't resist - he had to know what had inspired such a reaction in the others. What in the world was it about the Hero's Call egg? He brushed his fingertips lightly just over the top of the shell, ready to pull back if needed.

For Alezri:
The River Blue Egg is confused by Alezri's confusion. It's clutchsibling invaded his head and he kind of liked it? Maybe liked it? River Blue doesn't know, but it's comfortable with it's confusion. Puzzlement is the way of the world, after all. It has no strong feelings towards Alezri one way or another, but it's sending reassurances that, yes, life is confusing, but it's okay.

Oh...hello, little egg. You are confused? That is all right. Jiruyno expects little from a dragon fetus.
He curved a hand across the shell for a moment, amused by the gentle buzz of confusion in the creature's mind, and then turned away. There were other eggs to touch, as well as...a new arrival. Mm.
Alezri's presence elicited a lift of the chin, tilt of the head...Jiruyno assessed the other man for a moment, lip curling, and then turned away as if he had never seen him. Rapist. Faranth, disgusting. Jiruyno would rather associate with Arkady than with filth like Alezri, but for the most part, he elected to simply ignore the man. His fingers briefly curled into loose fists, but he dropped that tightness of frame after a moment, moving toward the Golden Starburst egg. Peculiar little thing that it was, he reached down and laid a palm flat on the shell.
"Well?" he asked it softly, not demanding but...curious. Mildly expectant.

Luckily for Alezri's already-twitching nerves, he completely missed the look on Jiru's face.
He might have wet himself, elsewise.
He stayed quietly by the River Blue egg, not quite able to fathom that the egg was trying to soothe him. Definitely not what he expected after his first encounter. His boyish face frowned slightly as he traced a swirl of particularly dark blue with his finger. Do I need comforting? he asked himself. Well, maybe. No. Yes? Bah, it was too hard to think at all (much less coherently) with the egg's perplexity, but he didn't mind it. I hope you find someone who knows the answers when you bust out of your imprisonment, he thought toward the egg. Alezri pulled his hand away from the shell and peeked around again to choose his next destination.
Blue eyes caught on the Golden Starburst, then skittered away upon realizing just who stood touching it. You don't have the nerves for this. You should have stayed where meals were certain and chance of survival was better than slim. Momentarily he wanted to smack himself, then examined the thought as he glanced distractedly at the Making a Mockery egg. It was near enough that he wouldn't have to walk past anyone else, at least, though that would soon be inevitable. There was only so much space to maneuver here. I'll just have to leave before they do. Go find Squall and try, again, to explain why I can't eat the rocks he brought.
No matter his thoughts, Alezri moved smoothly enough, with outward poise, to the Making a Mockery egg. Maybe he'd get lucky, and this time the baby in the egg would have a personality to match the appearance of the shell. He knelt to lay his palm directly over the 'mustache,' suppressing a smile that nonetheless twitched the corner of his mouth skyward.

For Jiruyno:
Why, hello there. What's a gentleman like you doing in a place like this? The Golden Starburst Egg projects amusement laced with sympathy. What a disgusting place for either of them to be. Surrounded by these people? Tragic. At least Jiruyno didn't have to put up with everyone touching him.
For Alezri:
The Making a Mockery Egg is all purring affection and easy kindness. It's welcoming, reassuring, everything one could ask of the perfect egg. And then pain flares, an attack that's simply hurt projected straight into Alezri's mind. It's not unbearable or anything, but it's certainly an attack. Funny how people can turn on you, isn't it?
For Arkady:
Curiosity killed the feline indeed! The Hero's Call Egg shudders at Arkady's touch, the mind now in contact with Arkady's a hissing, spitting, murderous presence. It will get out. It will. Just wait. And it knows Arkady now. He will be punished!

"Poor creature," Jiruyno remarked, the edge of a soft laugh in his voice. This one was not as...dangerous as the one he had given before. This was a sound that, coming from someone else, might have been pleasant. Leaning down, he moved his hand over the shell in light, amused strokes. "You are a more patient being than I, you know," he sniffed, glancing around just in time to see Alezri skitter away from him. His expression turned wicked, then, a slow, vicious smile spreading over features ill-suited to the expression. So he intimidated them all, then. Good. Very good. It would, he assumed, stay that way.
But with that, Jiru was going to take his leave. Arkady was leaving, it seemed, and Machi was occasionally fixing him with a side-eye that was more or less precisely the kind of thing Jiru wanted to avoid. Ah, but he would need to win Machi's trust in some way. He couldn't do that with the poor thing skittering away from him like he was frightened. It wouldn't do. There was nothing for Machi to fear from him. For a moment, his lips pursed in an unconscious expression that might have been a silent croon. But then he realized himself, straightening up abruptly and shaking his head. This place was getting to him. The filth and isolation, the lack of food, the terrible company...
Ah, but what he wouldn't give to get out and stay out forever.
He made a point to brush past Arkady on the way out. Nothing deliberately insulting, no physical contact, but a moment of closeness. Whether it was to assuage his own fears or reinforce whatever it was that Arkady thought about him, he was unsure. But Arkady was a dangerous, unpredictable element, and Jiruyno would not let him out of his sight for long.

With that last, horrible assault, Alezri decided he'd had quite enough. Feeling a little foolish and more than a little irritated, he deliberately walked rather than moving at a fast pace. He was almost angry, for shards' sakes. He rubbed his hands against the thighs of his pants, as if by that simple aggravated action he could clear away the lingering ache behind his eyes.
At least the egg I took didn't hate me, he thought. More than anything, he wished he'd wound up at the hot springs alone. It felt like he was retreating; from the other outlaws as much as the eggs. You could always flip on them. It was an amusing (if preposterous) thought, like the idea that any of these hatchlings would choose to stay with people like them rather than go safely between.
Alezri was so wrapped in his own thoughts that he scarcely noticed how nearly he passed Arkady, and actually didn't care that he was following Jiru out. They were rather alarming individuals, but at least they couldn't climb directly into his skull and wreak mental havoc.
