For once Sheraz seemed to become more serious, or at least less flippant, as he listened to L’vey describe Impression for him. The rider was very prosaic about it, but that appealed to Sheraz’s uneducated mind, which thought that everything that involved long words elegantly put together was wonderfully clever and desirable. The explanation hammered home one point, even if he was just as clueless as ever about the rest of it; Impression was a pretty momentous occasion, and it really did change one’s life forever.
The analogy of falling in love was sadly lost on Sheraz, who couldn’t recall ever having done so. He’d loved, certainly, in fact he was quite an affectionate person, but his affection had never really been focused on one individual. Even so, he grasped the concept, and the thought of being so tightly linked to another mind was a very appealing one to a person who delighted in love.
“Oh, I will live up to that image.” Sheraz assured the rider, his tone making it sound like a promise while still being full of surety that he would be good enough. He was quiet for a moment then, his hazel eyes gazing off into the distance with an uncharacteristic look like that of a child contemplating their upcoming birthday. After the hatching, it seemed to Sheraz everything would be wonderful. Sure, he knew there would still be work to do, and yes, perhaps technically, he would still be a prisoner, but he would have more freedom, he was sure of it, and he would have a great and magnificent dragon companion.
He looked back at L’vey then, grinning with honest happiness and without any of his usual smirk. “This is gonna’ be wonderful.” He said decisively, feeling that he had to express some of the emotion pent up inside him. He tipped his head to the side, remembering that if it weren’t for L’vey, he might not be getting this chance at all. “I s’pose I better say thanks,” He began, still smiling, “If it weren’t for you, us prisoners wouldn’t get to Stand at all.”
