Warden's Weyr

Board Threads Posts Last Post
No New Posts Mess Hall

Warden Weyr serves food outside on long wooden tables. Oiled canvas protects them from the frequent rains. There's a sideboard where prepared dishes are set out, and there's usually at least snacks available both day and night. The kitchens at Warden's are always open.

No New Posts Feeding Pens

The feeding pens at Wardens are actually kept quite well stocked. They're located on the far side of the river, a good distant from the Weyr proper.

No New Posts Weyrling Barracks

Warden's actually has two sets of Weyrling Barracks. For most Weyrlings, they're a long, open air structure protected from the rain by a wooden roof. Cloth partitions fence off individual 'weyr's' each with it's own cot and dragon couch. The partitions can be closed for privacy, or opened for conversation. The new barracks are built of stone. Essentially just one huge stone room, there's enough room for the hatchlings until they reach about six months.

The new barracks, built by the prisoners for any prisoners that might impress are built of stone. It's a small structure, basically one big stone room on a dirt floor. In most ways, it resembles the outside barracks, but it locks from the outside, and it's patrolled at night.

No New Posts Dragon weyrs

Dragonriders are provided with small, one room huts built of wood, large enough to accommodate themselves and possibly one more person. Dragons sleep outside, and are provided with wood and oiled canvas shelters to keep the rain off.

No New Posts Wher Complex

By far the largest enclosed structure at Warden's Weyr, excepting the prison itself. This huge, windowless stone building offers daylight shelter to the whers, with individual, dorm style rooms for each wher and handler. Handlers are not required to live in the complex, but it exists for their comfort and safety. There's also a weyrling barracks, hatching sands for the whers, and even a small mess hall.

No New Posts Hatching Sands

Not a traditional setup, instead, the sands are on the beach, above the high tide line. The area is roofed by high glass panels which let the sun in but protect the eggs from the rain. The stands are temporary structures, built quickly by the prisoners to accommodate those who wish to watch the hatching.

No New Posts General Quarters

Most of the residents of Warden's Weyr live in wood huts, simple structures that don't need to provide much more than protection from the rain. As people generally build their own housing, or hire someone to do it, they very greatly in size and location.

No New Posts The River

A river of moderate size snakes its lazy way down to the ocean. Warden's Weyr uses the river as a source of fresh water. There are many structures along its banks, as many crafters choose to work their trades near the water's edge.

The Prison

No New Posts The Warden's Office

A stone structure of moderate size, with large windows. The Warden spends much of his time inside, and all prisoners find themselves here at least once, meeting the Warden.

Men and Women in the prison are housed in separate barracks. The barracks are built of stone, with heavy doors that lock from the outside, and barred holes for windows. The prisoners have a strict curfew.

An open air structure protected by oiled canvas. Meals are served at set times but prisoners who aren't working tend to congregate here at off hours as well. Sometimes, guards will choose to catch a quick bite here instead of leaving the prison.

Located near the wall, this is simply an open area with low growing grasses where prisoners tend to congregate in their off time. There's a small well in the center, providing fresh, cool water.

No New Posts Detox Area

The detox area is one of the nicer areas in the prison. Like most places, it's built of stone. Rows of cots are set out for prisoners, and they're equipped with straps should restraint be necessary. The detox area is always staffed by healers and prisoners who have trained as such often help out. Injured prisoners are also brought here, as it serves as the prison's general medical complex. All prisoners are required to spend 24-hours in the detox area, whether they're known dusters or not.

No New Posts Jungle

The caves the outlaws occupy are situated deep within the jungle. The surrounds are extremely dense, clearing out only somewhat at a river located a half days walk from the caves. This is a mountainous area and the cave system is located in the side of one of the larger ones. The mouth is about twice man height.

No New Posts Outer Caves

These caves were once occupied by the outlaws. The outer caves are smooth walled, connected by small, neatly carved hallways. The ancients primarily dug down, but the outer caves are level with the outer ground. They are huge things with the roofs hundreds of feet above the ground.

The inner caves are small and can be reached by halls that slope steeply downward. Many choose to use these caves as places to sleep, as most are about the size of a room. Some of those who were once crafters choose to set workshops up here as well.

Beyond the inner caves is large cavern filled entirely with water. The air smells of sulfur and the heat is quite oppressive. The waters is hot to the touch, but not to the point of burning. Some choose to come here to soak.

The beach that Warden's abuts is lovely, with fine white sand leading into warm, shallow waters. There's a dolphineers complex built on the shore, and the waters are patrolled by dolphins.

Day and night, the skies above Warden's Weyr are full of dragons who patrol by light of sun or light of glows. There are, of course, other reasons for creatures to be on wing. Mating flights, for example.

No New Posts The Jungle

It takes a good half-day's walk to get from the Prison complex to the jungle. Any closer than that, and vegetation is clear cut, and kept so by constant patrols. The area between the Weyr and the jungle is now farmed, though only low growing crops are permitted.
